Principal's Message
Principal's Message
Hello Santiago Students and Families,
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at Santiago High School. We are looking forward to another exciting year of learning, involvement, and competition at the home of scholars, achievers, and champions. This summer we have been working to plan a smooth transition for all-out new and returning students. The support staff has been working hard all summer, and the teachers are back and ready for another successful year. This is a fun time of energy and anticipation as we get to know and work with new students full of talents, strengths, and abilities. We hope that everyone coming to school this year has already decided what opportunities they are going to take advantage of outside the classroom. Part of being a good citizen is getting involved in more than the classroom work. Find something that you are passionate about, and pursue it with tenacity. We will help you with your growth at Santiago, all we ask for is your energy and attention as you become the next generation of SANTIAGO SHARKS!

New ID Policy!
We have a new ID procedure! Students received their ID card at registration. Students either got a student ID card OR an ASB ID card if they purchased ASB membership for the year. All students will be required to visibly wear their ID daily on a lanyard while on campus. If a student loses or damages their ID card they will be required to get a replacement ID from the Shark Shop. Replacement ID cards cost $5.00 and replacement ASB ID cards cost $10.00.
Student Schedules
Student schedules will be available online through Q Student Connect Saturday, August 11th. Students must either print out a copy or take a picture/screenshot of their schedule and bring it with them to school on Monday, August 13th. Students will report to their first-period class at 7:40 am with their schedule and ID card visibly displayed. We look forward to starting another great year at Santiago. See you on Monday, August 13th!

Attendance Matters at Santiago!
Reducing California’s high chronic absenteeism rates is a priority in the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).
A "chronic absentee" has been defined in California Education Code (EC) Section 60901(c)(1) as "a pupil who is absent on 10 percent or more of the school days in the school year when the total number of days a pupil is absent is divided by the total number of days the pupil is enrolled and school was actually taught in the regular day schools of the district, exclusive of Saturdays and Sundays."
Across the country, more than 8 million students are missing so many days of school that they are academically at risk. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences and suspensions, can translate into third-graders unable to master reading, sixth-graders failing subjects and ninth-graders dropping out of high school.
This year Santiago, in cooperation with CNUSD, is taking steps to ensure students are attending school more regularly. Santiago High School will notify parents/guardians of attendance bi-weekly through our student information system (Q). As always, we encourage you to regularly check Q attendance and report any discrepancies.
