1. ACE Austin Lesson Plan Template and the ACE Austin 5 Step Lesson Plan Guide
Do not write on the lesson plan, instead make a copy.
2. Introduction
a. Building Community YPQ Book
b. Playworks Game Library
c. Create your own!
II. Make connections to prior knowledge
a. "We ae working on (overall goal for semester/unit), and last time we met, we practiced skills from previous session). Today, we are going to (learning objective)'"
b. Good place to ask question to check for understanding/review key concepts.
III. Specific learning objectives are posted and explained
a. Student will be able to do X using Y.
b. "SWBAT read aloud from script using expression."
c. "SWBAT make a basket using a layup technique."
d. "SWBAT describe 3D shapes using at least 2 geometry vocabulary words."
3. Intentional Skill Building: I Do, We Do, You Do
- I Do:
Staff explains and models the skills a briefly as possible for students to understand.
- We Do:
Students practice the skill while receiving active feedback ad guidance from staff in order to understand/improve. This portion of the activity should take the majority of the time allotted.
- You Do:
Students briefly practice the skill without help from the instructor. Instructor and students assess progress toward the goal.
4. Reflection
- Serves as a review of the key concepts
- Provides the opportunity for students to share structured feedback.
(Rose & Thorn, Fill in the Blank, Thumbs Up/Down and why, rate yourself etc.)
- Allows the opportunity to answer questions and /or provide clarification.
- Helps to set goals for the next class
Key Note for before submitting Lesson Plans!
5. Submitting Lesson Plans
- Lesson plans are due every Friday before the lesson is taught.
- Lesson plans should be in Google form, using the template in section 1. Make sure to make a copy each time before you fill out the form and submit it.
- Lesson will be reviewed by your SC for quality assurance and either approved or denied.
- If lesson plan is not approved, it is your responsibility to make the necessary corrections and re-submit. (Follow the comments provided in the Lesson Plan Google Form..)
