#MakeADifferenceMonday

Tune in every Monday for #MakeADifferenceMonday where we will feature a stakeholder, student, or fellow alumni answering "Five questions for B-C-S"

This week B-C-S is featuring, District School Nurse, Nicole Glaser!

Nicole's Feature:

1. Please state your name, position you hold at B-C-S Local School District, and how long you have worked at B-C-S.

  • My name is Nicole Glaser and I am the school nurse for B-C-S. This is my first year working for the school.

2. Providing health care to students is an unpredictable job. Describe what your typical school nurse’s day is like.

  • I start my day by greeting our students at the door before the start of the day. After that, I have a daily schedule for giving students’ their medications and performing medical interventions. Each day is a little bit different. I take care of student illnesses or injuries, vision and hearing screenings, and so on. I also coordinate with parents and doctor’s offices and communicate student needs with our staff.

3. What do you find most rewarding about this profession?

  • Being a nurse goes beyond just getting to help others. By working in a school district and small community, I get to form lasting relationships and see the students grow. I’ve only been here a short time but it is so amazing to see the improvement they make! Something as small as tying their own shoes for the first time to learning responsibility by going to the clinic for their medication every day without a reminder.

4. What are some challenges a school nurse faces?

  • Some days I get spread thin and I can feel overwhelmed with what I need to get done by the end of the day. I am so thankful for the amazing staff we have that helps me out or gives me words of encouragement, especially our office personnel!

5. What do you enjoy doing outside of school?

  • Outside of school, I love spending time with my family and friends, going to football and hockey games, and snowmobiling. Often times, you can find me at The Rocket Shop!
