Art Club
This fall, Meri Steinmetz, a counseling intern who specializes in Art Therapy, will be working at WES with Erin Klocek on Tuesdays. She plans to run a lunch recess Art Club, an option for students who wish to explore their creative sides. There will be opportunities to work with Meri on a variety of activities, both pre-planned and self-directed. Meri says "my goals are to help students build emotional self-awareness, and encourage things like regulation, efficacy and advocacy through the artistic process." This club is optional and open to all who are interested. Please e-mail Erin (eklocek@wcsu.net) if you have any questions!
After School STEM Club! (grades 3-6)
This STEM After School Club is designed as a hands-on introduction to hydraulics and simple machines. Students will build hydraulic machines using a small number of syringes (pistons), wooden frames, surgical tubing, and liquid. Students will then be given an opportunity to design a hydraulic machine of their own.

Healthy Helpings Program
“Healthy Helpings” is a program at WES that is available to families in partnership with the Woodstock Food Shelf. The purpose of the program is to provide healthy snack items for our students to eat on the weekends. The program is free of charge. Here's how it works:
If you sign up, your child (or the oldest child in your family) will receive a bag of non-perishable food items on (most) Fridays (or the day before a school vacation). Items may include things like mac and cheese, canned goods, oatmeal, popcorn, tuna, crackers, peanut butter and jelly, fruit cups, etc.
Items will be distributed confidentially and discreetly in a way that works for your family. We typically put weekend food bags in students’ backpacks on Fridays when the students are away from the classroom. Alternatively, parents can pick up the bags in the office on Friday afternoons if you’d prefer.
*NOTE* If you participated in Healthy Helpings last year, you do not need to sign up again, your children will automatically receive bags again this year. If you do not wish to continue receiving bags, or if you have any questions about the program, please contact me at eklocek@wcsu.net.
Your personal information and participation will be treated with respect and confidentiality. Please print and return the form below to Mr. Miles in the WES office, or e-mail Erin Klocek (eklocek@wcsu.net) with the same information.
Sincerely,
Erin Klocek

WES NURSE NEWS
* Our district wide Wellness Policy states that schools will "seek alternatives to food for use in celebrations in order to respect and include those individuals with food allergies, cultural restrictions and / or economic challenges". Please do not send in food to celebrate your child's birthday or other special occasions. We understand this can be a culture change for students and families. Teacher will find alternative ways to celebrate special occasions.
* All medication from home that you wish to be administered at school must be accompanied by a medication administration order and permission form. If you drop off medication for your child, please ask the school nurse for a copy of this form and sign it. She will fax it to your child's physician for signature. Please hand deliver any medications. If this is not possible, please let administration or the school nurse know that your child is delivering it so that we can collect it upon arrival to school. If your child has an inhaler, it must be kept in the nurse's office. The medication form must be completed and your child's physician should provide the nurse with a current Asthma Action Plan for this school year.
* If your child sustains an injury that requires a cast or splint, please provide the nurse with a note from the ER or physician stating the nature of the injury and any physical activity restrictions the child has. Students wearing any casts, splints, supportive braces or ace wraps will not be allowed to participate in PE without a physicians note stating they may participate. Students wearing casts or splints will not be allowed to participate in PE until the cast or splint is removed and a physician has cleared them for activity. Students wearing casts or splints will not be allowed to participate in recess until we have a physician's note stating that they may.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding health services at Woodstock Elementary School, please feel free to contact me! Thank you and have a safe and healthy school year!

News From the WCUD School Nutrition Program
Dear WES Families,
It has been great seeing your children in our cafeteria this school year. Whether they purchase the school meals or not, we take pride in making sure your child has a positive eating experience during meal times. As we settle into the new school year routines, I would like to make sure you are aware of some changes to our breakfast program. Please read below and reach out with any questions! My contact information is below!
- We will not be offering Snack Milk this year. We will be working to provide a more robust Grab & Go Breakfast option where milk is part of a complete meal and our students have increased access to the breakfast meal. Students may participate in our regular breakfast time or they may place an order for a Grab & Go Breakfast to be eaten at snack time. This is a one or the other option, not both. We will encourage the students who do come for regular breakfast to take an item with them for later if they need a snack. See our breakfast flyer for more information.Free and Reduced students receive this meal for FREE and paid students will be charged $1.85 if ordered. Grab & Go orders can be placed during the regular morning meeting routine when lunch orders are placed.
- A la carte milk is still offered at lunch time. If your child would like to purchase ONLY milk and not a full meal, it is $.50. This will be charged to your child's account.
- Please remember to submit the VT Free and Reduced Meal Application. If you qualified last school year, you still need to reapply. If you qualified last year and do not reapply, your child's free meal benefits will stop on October 12. We do accept meal applications at any time of the year if your income status changes. Please use our school nutrition website https://www.wcsu.net/wcud-school-nutrition-program to download the application or stop in the main office to pick one up. Reach out with questions, we are here to help!
- Please remember to keep meal account balances in the positive. You can pay with cash or check (checks take 2-4 weeks to process) or pay online at myschoolbucks.com. If you do not want to pay online you can still use myschoolbucks to keep track of your child's account.
