PTO News
A message for families that have been redistricted to CRE
Cumberland Road Elementary is excited to welcome you to our family! Are you interested in volunteering with the CRE PTO? We have plenty of opportunities of all shapes and sizes. Please fill out the following form and we will head you in the right direction. The deadline to submit your form is Monday, April 8th. If you have any questions please contact Shannon Ladislas at shannon.ladislas@gmail.com. We are looking forward to a great school year!
HRE PTO Needs Your Help!
Think you might want to be a part of the HRE PTO Executive Board? It’s a great way to meet
other parents, impact your child’s school and give back in a meaningful way.
We have two openings for the 2019-20 Board. If you’re interested in learning more about joining the PTO executive board, please email Jen Dack at jenniferdack@gmail.com.
The PTO has something for everyone! There are chair opportunities that can be done from
home or on a Saturday, and many different levels of time commitment. Be on the lookout
for co-chair openings for 2019-20 coming home soon! And if you would like to help at various events throughout the year, volunteer sign up forms will come home at the beginning of the school year, in August.
4th Grade Music Program
Our fourth grade students will be performing "Rock and Roll, How it all Began" on Thursday, March 21st at 7:00 PM. The show centers around the rock and roll music of the 1950's. Mrs. Ross is asking all fourth grade students to wear clothing to look like they are from the 1950's. Costumes should be brought to school on March 21st so they may be worn during our daytime dress rehearsal (during school hours).
Here are some guideline/ideas regarding costumes:
- Boys- Jeans, white t-shirts or short sleeved shirt-other optional ideas are leather coats, slicked back hair, cardigans, school letter jacket
- Girls- Jeans, jean capris, solid colored shirts or small patterned skirts, scarves in hair with ponytails, scarves around neck, other optional ideas are poodle skirts and cardigans
- Girls and Boys- Please no shirts with writing on them
****Mrs. Washburn's class is on stage for "Surfin' in the USA". This class may wear shorts and Hawaiian shirts or Beach Dresses (beach wear). No bathing suits please.
All 4th grade girls are invited to sign-up for a separate musical number with the song Lollipop by the Cordettes. They would just wear the same costume that they are wearing for their class number. Rehearsals for this will be Fridays during Smart Start- 8:45-9:15am.
Please be as creative as you would like. Mrs. Ross would prefer the students dress as close to 1950's era styles as possible. Hopefully they will all feel like 1950's rock stars!
If you have any questions, please feel free to call Mrs. Ross at 915-4240 ex. 1837 or email her at rross@hse.k12.in.us.
Geist 5k
Calling all runners, walkers, and joggers! Hoosier Road will be putting together its 12th annual Geist 5K team to participate in the 5K race on May 18, 2019 which starts at 7AM. All HRE families (no matter the grade level) are invited to register with our school. This is a great family friendly activity that you all can enjoy together! Registration packets will be available to download below or can be picked up from Ms. Chandler. We would love to have you join our team!
School Directory
We have had a number of parents wanting to find ways to schedule playdates, parties, etc. with their children’s classmates. HSE has made this possible with our Online School Directory. This service is only available for those families that choose to “OPT IN”.
You may select what information you would like other parents to see (such as address, phone numbers) for birthday invitations and the like. If you would like to “OPT IN” please follow the steps below:
- Login to Skyward
- Click on “MY ACCOUNT” tab in the upper right corner
- On the bottom of the page look for the Online Directory
- Choose which information you would like to share
- Click Save
Please note that the only people that will have access to this, are the families at HRE. If you have older children at other schools, their information will only be shared with the families at their school. We hope this will help our students to be able to stay connected outside of school hours.
Background Checks
Hoosier Road Elementary always has many opportunities for parents to become involved. Whether it’s through volunteering in the classroom or a PTO event, attending classroom activities or even eating lunch with your child, you must have a valid background check on file and view the anti-bullying training on-line. Background checks are valid for three years. Please allow up to 6 business days for checks to be completed. Please follow this link for complete directions: http://www.hse.k12.in.us/ADM/parents/volunteering.aspx
We want you to be able to interact with our students but we also need to adhere to strict safety guidelines set forth by our school district. Look for an email from Safe Visitor Solutions which will issue a bar code unique to you. Please bring that bar code (on your phone or on paper) on your first visit to HRE so we may take your photo! Thank you for your compliance and for helping to keep all of our students safe.
Text-A-Tip
Text-A-Tip is a program that allows students, parents or others to anonymously send a text or email message to our school resource officers and school administrators about concerns they may have for their own safety or the safety of others. Text-A-Tip will be actively monitored during the school day. It should not be used for emergencies—Call 911 if you need immediate help. For more information on how to submit a tip please use the link below.

Panorama Surveys to Gather Stakeholder Feedback
HSE Schools is excited to announce a new partnership with Panorama Education. This partnership allows our schools to collect valuable feedback from three critical stakeholder groups: students, parents, and teachers. Over the next three weeks, we will be conducting surveys to learn more about the perceptions and needs of our school community. All K-12 students will participate in the Panorama Social-Emotional Learning Survey at school during the March 18 – 29 survey window. Family survey links will be sent directly from Panorama Education to the Guardian 1 email address on file in Skyward during the same window.
Learn more about social emotional learning and HSE Schools Comprehensive Student Success efforts by visiting hseschools.org and clicking on school counseling.
If you have questions about the student survey or to opt out, please contact your building principal or Dr. Susan Drumm, HSE's Chief Analytics Officer (sdrumm@hse.k12.in.us). If you don’t receive your unique family survey link via email on March 18, please contact either support+hseschools@panoramaed.com or sdrumm@hse.k12.in.us.
HSE Schools are grateful to our grant partners for providing funding for this survey opportunity. Thank you in advance for your feedback and for all you do to help all 22,000 HSE Students become #HSEFutureReady.
