SHERMAN STARS - WORKING TOGETHER
FOR A BRIGHT FUTURE
Principal's Message
Hi Sherman Families:
We held our Veteran's Day Assembly this morning and welcomed a number of Veterans and community organizations into our building. It is always a special event and truly wonderful to see all of the students show such support for our Veterans. Each grade level contributes a project to the event. All of these projects are displayed for Veterans as they enter into the ceremony. Our local Boy Scout Pack presents the colors to start the ceremony. We also host members of our local VFW to speak. Our 4th and 5th Grade students sing a number of patriotic songs to honor our country and the Veterans who have served. Lastly, our local Girl Scout Troop hands out cards and small gifts to show appreciation. A great big THANKS to all of the Veterans who help protect our freedom and to those who joined us today at our ceremony.
Friendly reminder: please make sure you review cold weather guidelines below. Winter weather is here, and I want to make sure our students are prepared to stay warm and safe on the playground.
Thank you all for your continued partnership. We know that a strong home-to-school connection is critical for our students to achieve at their highest potential. Have a great weekend Sherman Community!
Sincerely,
Joel Dimock

Cold Weather Gear Guidlines
During the winter months K- 3 students are required to wear coats, hats, gloves/mittens, snow pants, and winter boots.
Snow pants are optional for 4th and 5th graders. Coats, hats, gloves/mittens, and winter boots are required. Those who choose not to wear snow pants and winter boots must remain on the shoveled blacktop area.
Please send your child to school with appropriate clothes for the weather. If your child comes to school without the proper cold weather/winter gear they will have to stay indoors for recess. If your child forgets cold weather/winter gear you will receive a note home (example on back) indicating what item(s) your child forgot. Please help your child remember the following day.
ECASD Procedures for Inclement Weather
The Superintendent or designee, in consultation with Student Transit, makes decisions about whether to close schools due to inclement weather or to use a two-hour delay in school start times when inclement weather requires time to promote safer travel to school. These decisions are typically made by 6:30 a.m. If the schools are closed because of bad weather, all athletic, after-school, and evening events are also canceled.
Announcements of these decisions are made by local television and radio stations, on the District’s website, via the District’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, and an email is sent to those families who have provided email addresses. You can also sign up for Skylert messaging and get the information in a way that works best for you. Log into your Skyward account and click on the Skylert option. You can click on the notification options you would like to receive including phone calls, text messages, or emails. You can find more details about Skylert in the Family/Student Handbook you received at the beginning of the school year.
When a TWO-HOUR DELAY is announced, the following changes will be made to the school day:
- Busses will run two hours after their regular schedule
- Buildings will begin classes two hours after the regular start time
- Cold breakfast will be served at all schools and school lunch will be at or around the regular time.
- Prairie Ridge Early Learning School and EC4T community sites will be closed.
As we know, weather conditions can change rapidly. If a two-hour delay must be reconsidered, the decision to close schools for the full day will be made no later than 8 a.m. The same process will be used if bad weather develops after school has started for the day.
You, as a parent, may decide that the weather is too severe to send your child to school (especially a younger child). The School District respects your decision in this matter. Please send an absence excuse when your child returns.
If you have questions, please contact the Superintendent's Office at 715-852-3002.

GT Art Event
Five, Sherman, 5th-grade students were invited to participate in a very unique art event at Artisan Forge Studios on October 20th. The elementary art department and the gifted and talented program partnered up with Blue Canvas Art Studio to bring the third annual 5th Grade GT Art Event at Artisan Forge Studios!
Hosting the event, Blue Canvas Art Studio created an art experience these 5th graders are sure to remember for a long time! Working with elementary art teachers, Beth Moga, Jen Castellano, and Courtney Ledin, students used canvas, sharpies, and fabric dye to create a cover design for a handmade sketchbook.
Students also had the opportunity to work with local artists, Rebecca Flynn (Sweet Driver Chocolates) making delicious pieces of art, Holli Jacobson (drawing and painting)paint a solar composition, and Jill Valenzuela (fiber arts) dyeing shirts using an Indigo Dye process.
These Sherman Stars joined 55 other 5th grade students from around the district to participate in this event. If you would like to stay up-to-date with other art happenings at our school, you can follow Mrs. Moga on Instagram @mrsmogasstarartists.
