A Note From the Nurse's Office
As Covid-19 cases are rising in Rhode Island, we are continuing to do everything possible to keep your child and staff members safe at Hugh Cole Elementary. We want to express how thankful we are to have such great parents and guardian’s who are continuing their communication with the nurse's office with symptoms or concerns.
We want to express how easy and important it is to have your child tested when symptoms arise and how quickly and convenient it is to do so. We can put your child's information in the portal for K-12 testing. The location we use is at Stop & Shop located on Metacom Avenue in Bristol, RI. Please let us know so we can put you in the RI portal for an easier appointment access. Testing for students and staff members at this site is not as invasive as it was when it first came out. If you are keeping a student home for any of the following symptoms we recommend your child be tested so your child and family are safe. Test’s are marked as an excused absence for testing purposes as well. We continue to ask for a copy of the PCR test to return to school.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during a time of uncertainty.
We are all in this together.

Important Protocol for Travel Plans and Returning to School
In advance of the holiday travel season, with an understanding of Governor Raimondo’s request for individuals to stay local, and with the potential impact on school operation the following requirements apply: All students and staff are required to quarantine for 14 days after returning to RI from international travel or travel to a US state where > 5% of COVID tests are positive. The RIDOH provides this updated list of states with a COVID-19 positivity rate higher than 5%.
The 14 day quarantine is necessary since COVID-19 can develop any time between 2-14 days after exposure. It is also required since a single negative test only indicates that you are negative at that point in time, but you could become infectious any time through day 14. The 14 day quarantine is the most effective way to reduce the risk of exposing other members of our school community to COVID-19.
Exceptions:
1. As an exception, you may provide proof of a negative test for COVID-19 that was taken within the 72 hours prior to arrival in Rhode Island.
2. Self-schedule an asymptomatic test at a community-based testing location or through portal.ri.gov. Be advised that it might take several days to receive the test results and you must quarantine while waiting for a negative test result.
