LAKE COUNTRY SCHOOL PBIS T-SHIRT DAYS
Years ago, Lake Country School implemented the PBIS program (Positive Behaviors Interventions and Supports). This initiative is intended to have year-round, school-wide activities that build a positive community across all school environments (classroom, playground, hallways, etc.). The focus will be on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors observed by our students. There will be different themes during the four quarters, which will be presented in all-school assemblies, classroom buddy activities, and conversations within classrooms. During online registration, you were charged a $5 fee for your childβs PBIS t-shirt. Students and staff are encouraged to wear these t-shirts on PBIS days. Mrs. Thurin will hand out this years t-shirts at the end of September.
SCHOOL COUNSELOR INTERN
Meet Jenny Bigus who is working with Mrs. Thurin until December.
My name is Jenny Bigus and I'm a school counseling graduate student at Mount Mary University. I'll be at Lake Country School this semester completing my internship, before I graduate in December. My hope is to get a job as a school counselor in an elementary school or middle school. My favorite thing about supporting students is the relationships built and seeing their growth throughout the year. I'm so excited to be here!
LAKE COUNTRY SCHOOL BAND FUNDRAISER
Thanks so much to everyone who volunteered, donated, or participated in the Lake Country School Band Open House Cookout Fundraiser! We raised $1500 for the band program! If you missed the event, or would still like to donate to the band program (for instruments, music, and many other needs), you can donate through the QR code.
LCS PICTURE DAY
There is no need to bring anything to picture day except your smile! π Picture day will be paperless. The photo taken will be used for the yearbook as well as your child's pin-protected online photo gallery. You will receive an email from Empire Photo by the end of September. From this email you may order photo prints or specialty products online.

FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR
As many of you know, Lake Country School District will have a referendum on the ballot in 2024. We are working together with SitelogIQ developing a plan. Accurate, detailed information will be available to the public soon!
MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
Students are not allowed to carry any over-the-counter or prescription medications at Lake Country School. All medication is dispensed from the health room with the exception of inhalers for asthma, EPI-Pens for allergic reactions and insulin for diabetics. Students may carry these only after an Individual Health Plan has been completed by their parents and physician.
If your child will take medications during the school day, parents are responsible for providing a limited supply of the medication to be kept in the health room, in the original medication bottle, after completing the Medication Authorization Form. If your child needs to take a prescription medication during the school day, this form will need to be completed by a physician as well.
Please contact the Director of Health Service, Michelle Howard via email at howardm@mylakecountryschool.org with any questions.
ATTENDANCE
Parents can excuse their child five (5) times during each semester with a maximum of ten (10) days per year. Student attendance will be monitored by the district daily, and students are required to attend school every day unless there is a need to be absent for one of the following reasons:
Personal illness of the student
Serious illness of a member of the immediate family causing the student to be needed at home
Doctor or dental appointment (families are encouraged to make doctor/dental and other personal appointments after school hours)
Sudden emergencies
Pre-planned absences (maximum of ten days per school year)
Approved educational opportunities
Suspension from school
To help the school maintain accurate attendance records and to assure that your childβs absence will be properly excused, please call the school office at 262-367-3606 before 8:30 a.m. when he/she will be absent. If a parent/guardian has not confirmed an absence, it will be necessary for school personnel to contact the parents/guardians at home or at their place of employment.
SCHOOL SNACKS & BIRTHDAY AND OTHER CELEBRATIONS
The Lake Country School District promotes a healthy school environment for students and staff through education and awareness, and by providing and promoting healthy options and opportunities. The Lake Country School District will practice and promote good nutrition within the school setting. Students who practice good nutrition attend school with minds and bodies ready to take advantage of their learning environment. Eating habits are learned early in life. Therefore, the School Board, administrators and staff support a school environment that promotes and encourages lifelong nutritious eating habits.
When sending a school snack with your child, please consider sending only healthy options. Great ideas are: apple slices or other fruit & vegetables, raisins or other dried fruit, cheese sticks, applesauce, baked crackers or pretzels, granola, or Google "smart snacks for schools list".
Per policy 458 School Wellness:
We must ensure that all school activities, including classroom practices and incentives, are consistent with the sound nutrition practices taught in the classroom and implemented in the school meal program.
In the classroom, the district encourages that foods that are offered meet or exceed the USDA Smart Snacks in School nutrition standards including those provided at celebrations and parties and classroom snacks brought by staff or family members.
In the classroom, food should not be used as a reward. We strongly recommend staff use physical activity such as an extra recess as a reward when feasible.
In the classroom, non-food celebrations will be promoted and a list of allowable party foods that meet the Smart Snack standards will be available to staff and family members.
Sugary birthday treats will not be consumed in the classroom. If they are brought to school individually wrapped, they can be sent home with each student. If the treats are not individually wrapped the parent/guardian who sent the treat to school will be contacted to pick them up.
Find a list of treat ideas on our school website at:

NOTE FROM ARROWHEAD HIGH SCHOOL
Since school has started and we are in the midst of our WIAA sports seasons I wanted to send out a message regarding middle school students attending AHS sporting events. We are encouraging parents who have elementary and middle school students to attend AHS events with their child. Last year we had a significant number of behavior issues at AHS events (specifically Friday Night Football Games) with younger students. We had numerous fights, vandalism, and disorderly actions from younger students and oftentimes there was not a parent on campus when we were addressing these issues. Handling behavior issues with students who are not yet in high school is challenging because we don't know who they are and they are not always honest about their name. We encourage parents to come with their child or at least send them with another adult.
Thank you for your cooperation and support of AHS Athletics.

Strategies to Make Homework Go More Smoothly
Homework has been around as long as public schools have, and over the years considerable research has been conducted regarding the efficacy of homework practices. Besides contributing to academic success, homework can help teach children how to take responsibility for tasks and how to work independently. Homework helps children develop habits of mind that will serve them well as they proceed through school and through life. Specifically, homework helps children learn how to plan and organize tasks, manage time, make choices, and problem solve. All of these skills contribute to effective functioning in the adult world of work and families. Homework also helps parents stay involved with their childβs education.
We encourage parents to help and assist their children to follow a nightly homework routine. Below are some recommendations from the National Association of School Psychologists. If you have further questions please reach out to your childβs teacher. CLICK HERE FOR HELPFUL HOMEWORK ROUTINES
If you have further questions, concerns or need to collaborate about your childβs education or social/emotional/behavioral health; please reach out to your Student Support Team.
