The Bobcat Blaze

Principal's Message
We have had yet another great week in Bobcat Country. You may hear your student mention their teacher pulled them individually to assess their reading level this week. This is correct and all part of our plan to ensure students are reading on grade level and/or receiving support to reach that goal.
Our Curriculum Remediation Program (invitation only) began this week. We ask that all participants who are car riders be picked up no later than 4:30pm. Excessive late pick-ups are cause for dismissal from the program.
Interims went home on Thursday along with your student's STAR assessment results for Fall, and SC Ready/SC PASS (3rd-5th grade only) results from last Spring. Please review and direct any questions to your student's homeroom teacher.
Fall Picture Day is Thursday, September 23rd. I cannot wait to see how fantastic our students will look as they put on their biggest and brightest smiles.
Remember that Friday, September 24th is an Early Release Day and elementary schools will dismiss at 10:30am. Please ensure your student's teacher knows how they are to go home if it is different from their normal mode.
The first day of autumn is slated for next week. I am hopeful for some cooler weather!
Have a safe, wonderful weekend!

A Bobcat Spotlight...
...Welcome New Bobcat Teachers!
Kelly Skaggs, Math InterventionistHello! My name is Kelly Skaggs and I am thrilled to be joining the A.C. Moore Bobcats as Math Interventionist! I graduated from USC with a B.S. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I was a classroom teacher for 15 years, working with fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students. I am married to a wonderful man who also works for Richland One. Together we have a beautiful daughter who is in first grade this year. Math has always been my favorite subject to plan and teach, so I cannot wait to support our teachers and students! | Robin Stancik, Pre-K TeacherI am Robin Stancik. I was born and raised in South Carolina. I feel fortunate to have two adult daughters and a young grandson. My alma mater is Columbia College where I received a B.A. in Music and am now finishing my masters is Divergent Learning. Education has been my second career, after working with birds at Riverbanks zoo for 15 years. In 2000, I began as a reading volunteer at my daughters' Montessori school and came on as an employee shortly afterwards. Later, I moved to Brockman Elementary where I have been for many years. Nature is my hobby. I enjoy working in my garden or tromping through the woods. I love observing and learning about all wildlife, cold -blooded or warm, large or small. My youngest daughter and I share our home with an assorted menagerie of pets that we take joy in spoiling. I am looking forward to this new and exciting adventure at A.C. Moore! | Meika Dekine, 5th Grade Teacher Hi! I am Meika Dekine. I am from Georgetown, SC (between Charleston and Myrtle Beach). I am a twin and one of five. A.C. MOORE CELEBRATES HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the contributions and importance of Hispanics and Latinos to the United States and those American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. The Hispanic Heritage observance began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100- 402.
The The National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers (NCHEPM), a membership-based organization consisting of an executive board, members, associates, and partners from multiple Federal agencies and other organizations from across the United States, advocatE for the improvement of Hispanic participation in the Federal Government. The NCHEPM supports the federal government’s observance activities each year by leading the process to select the annual theme federal agencies will use to conduct their Hispanic Heritage Month observances.
NCHEPM announced the 2021 Hispanic Heritage Month observance theme: “Esperanza: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope.” The theme invites us to celebrate Hispanic Heritage and to reflect on how great our tomorrow can be if we hold onto our resilience and hope. It encourages us to reflect on all of the contributions Hispanics have made in the past, and will continue to make in the future. It is also a reminder that we are stronger together.
Mr. Victor Anthony Zertuche, Attorney-Advisor at U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, submitted the winning theme, stating “The past year has been one unlike any in recent memory. For so many of us our lives have changed; we've celebrated life's milestones at home or spent holidays alone. But despite how our world has changed, we've kept our eyes on the horizon--we've held onto our hope. This theme celebrates our Hispanic heritage and our resilience. It provides us the opportunity to reflect on those who came before us and held onto hope to create a better tomorrow. It inspires us to recognize that we are stronger together and reminds us that although we are apart, with hope, we are not alone."
