Good Evening Mayfield Intermediate School students and families!

Today we celebrated our Students of the Month for August and September. We invited family and friends to join the celebration as we recognized 64 students for their outstanding accomplishments at the beginning of the school year! It was another proud Mayfield Moment that genuinely shows the great community we are part of in Manassas City. We celebrated our students with our School Board Chair, Ms. Seaburg, our Superintendent, Dr. Newman, and our Executive Director for Student Services, Dr. Thomas.

Thank our 6th Grade teachers, Dayna Broskey and Kim Urban, for organizing this event. We have three more Student of the Month celebrations scheduled throughout the year, and we are excited to have even more family and friends join us in the future.

As we shared in previous newsletters, we are fortunate to have many outstanding educators at Mayfield Intermediate School. If you know a teacher you would like to nominate for the Virginia Teacher of the Year Award; please complete the form below.

One of the most important things our students can do to become more successful in class is to develop into successful readers who enjoy reading daily. Our teachers have come up with creative ways to introduce students to a variety of different texts. For example, in Mrs. Hill's 6th-grade class, the students completed a book tasting. Mrs. Hill helped introduce her students to a variety of different genres, and they had the opportunity to sample a book. Here are some pictures of the book tasting!

Additionally, if students want to look for a variety of books, our school library is equipped with thousands and thousands of great reads. Students visit the library during their encore time and can visit the library for independent checkout throughout the day.

We support student attendance by making students feel like they are part of our community. Building community happens in many ways at Mayfield. One way, in particular, is engaging students in various clubs and activities. We are fortunate to have a fantastic group of teachers who volunteer their time and effort to support the variety of clubs that we offer after school. Please check out the current clubs that we have sponsored.

These are just the start of the clubs and activities we have planned for the year. Students should be listening to our morning announcement to hear when new clubs are starting so that they can get in on some of the fun activities. Students in 6th-grade also have the opportunity to participate in the athletic programs at Metz Middle School

We also want to thank our transportation department for arranging the after-school transportation buses for our students.

Students at Mayfield Intermediate follow the same Student Code of Conduct that ALL students in Manassas City Public Schools follow. Students and parents must read and review the Student Code of Conduct Regularly. We keep the Student Code of Conduct attached as a file at the bottom of every Mayfield Messenger that we send.
