Early literacy encompasses so many components! Each month, we will explain one piece of the puzzle, and offer tips for supporting your child at home. Next up, phonics.
What is phonics? Phonics is the method of teaching letters, letter patterns and sounds. The goal of phonics instruction is to teach decoding in order to make meaning of text. What are we doing? Your child is building this knowledge through the Fundations curriculum, a daily, multi-sensory approach to the teaching and learning of a progression of phonics skills. How can you support your child? Say or sing the alphabet (be aware of L, M, N, O, P !) Encourage word solving by saying "Tap it out." Reach out to your child's teacher for specific strategies based on your child.
