Also, please take very careful note of the UIL Eligibility calendar. If students fail this 6-week progress report, they will not be able to participate in Football, Volleyball, or Band events after that 7 day grace period. It might affect other Fine Arts events if they have activities going on right now. I want to urge you all to speak with your student-athlete and also communicate with coaches/directors if he/she is not passing all courses for this upcoming progress report. Please ensure he/she has turned in all work, completed makeup work, and attends teacher tutorials if needed.
Vandalism and Destruction of School Property - a message from Principal Barnett
I first want to say that I appreciate so many of you for your support of our school community! Our staff is working diligently to provide ALL of our students with an exceptional education! Many of them come in very late and stay late preparing engaging lessons, facilitating tutorial sessions, and helping our students meet their expectations and goals. Not only that, the majority of our students are doing an amazing job of having good citizenship in the school, working hard in the classrooms, being respectful and kind to others, and ensuring that they do their part to help our school achieve that A-Rating that we know this school community deserves. So, I want to say thank you to those students and parents who value our school community and want to ensure we reach that high level of academic, social, and behavioral success.
However, positive behaviors and good citizenship have really been challenging for some of our students this week. Some students have been breaking or stepping on their ink pens in the hallways during passing periods and in the gyms. Then during the passing period when all of the students are moving to class, the ink gets stepped in by students and tracked all over the hallways. It's made a huge mess in our school! Twice this week our custodial staff has had to scrub ink off the floor. They spent multiple hours this summer preparing and waxing our floors so that the campus looked nice for our students. But the ink can only be removed from the floor with the stripper, ultimately it strips their beautiful waxing job as well. View the video of the current state of our hallways.
I'm only bringing this to your attention because our custodial staff works very hard every day to keep our school clean for our students. They should not have to be tasked to do these extra duties on a regular basis. So, I ask that you speak with your student(s) about being good citizens and taking care of our school. One of the things we teach students here at Coyle is moral and ethical responsibility: "You are responsible for yourself", "You are responsible to the other members of this school community". Moral and ethical responsibility means following school and campus expectations, appropriate communications to/with others, taking responsibility and being accountable for your own actions, and having mutual respect for your fellow students, teachers, administration, and staff members in our school community.
Please speak with your student(s) tonight about their moral and ethical responsibilities as members of our school community. It's important that we all do our best to make our school a safe and civil place for all students to receive an excellent education!
As a note, I have asked our SRO team to review the campus video. There will be consequences aligned with the school district's Student Code of Conduct for those who caused this damage and destruction to our school property.
Sincerely,
Principal Barnett

AVID BINDERS
Our students will use the AVID Binder system to develop learners who can self-direct, self-evaluate, self-monitor, and self-advocate. ALL STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED to maintain their school binder following the AVID Binder model.
What is the AVID Binder?
The AVID Binder is a system for keeping essential school materials and class assignments organized into one binder. A proper AVID Binder contains all the "required items" from the school supply list. Below, you can watch a short video on How to Organize Your AVID Binder.
AVID binder checks will be conducted once a month in predetermined classes. Teachers leading the monthly AVID Binder checks will be looking for “Required Items” and overall organization. Please review the video so can help prepare your child at home for a successful binder check, and to learn more about AVID.
How can I support my child at home?
Regularly check your student's backpack and AVID Binder. All papers should be placed in binder rings in the proper class section. Remove unnecessary papers. Ensure all required materials are present. We encourage you to reference the video below.
What is AVID?
AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities. For more information about AVID, visit their website at avid.org.
Thank you for your partnership and support. If you have any questions about the AVID Binder, do not hesitate to contact us.
