A Message from Principal Jackson

Hello Miner Families,

Happy October! As most of you have heard, the Mayor announced this past Monday that DCPS elementary schools would be reopening in a limited capacity beginning in term 2 (November 9th).

While much of this information is new and still in the planning phase at this point in time, the initial plan is for each school to open one classroom per grade level for live instruction. The students would be selected for theses seats based on need preferences, including homeless status, special education needs, English Language Learner status, and at risk students. DCPS will be determining the students selected for each classroom and the school will only be opening classrooms at the grade levels in which there are teachers and staff willing and able to work those settings.

In addition, the district will open CARE classrooms to support students with virtual learning inside of the school building. Again, these classrooms will be opened based on availability of staff at an individual school location.

Lastly, virtual learning will remain an option for any and all families that choose that as the best plan for their students.

Once we know more about the number of rooms we will be opening and in which grade levels we will share that out with the school community. In addition, once we have a re-opening safety plan in place we will share it with the school community as well.

You can learn more about the DCPS released plan by visiting the below link:

DCPS Re-Open Strong

Remember that October is Anti-Bullying month. Please continue to reinforce this with your students. The school staff will also do so during morning meetings throughout the month.

Many grade levels will be adjusting their student schedules based on feedback from teachers and families. Please be on the look out for information from your homeroom teachers about the new schedule and the start date.

If you need anything from the school, here are the best contacts to use:

BACK TO SCHOOL 2020-2021

Virtual Learning Attendance

Students are required to attend virtual learning each day, Monday through Friday. Student attendance is tracked by logging into Canvas each day. Please make sure students log in between 6am and 11:59pm to receive credit for attending. The log in must be through CANVAS to ensure the attendance is captured daily.

District attendance requirements still exist. If your student is going to miss school, please let their teacher know and send a note to Ms. Joseph via email at chelsea.joseph@k12.dc.gov.

Medical and Dental Forms

Universal Health Certificates, Immunization Records, and Dental Forms are due on August 31st, 2020. Families who have not turned them in will continue to receive reminders consistently until we return to in person learning, at which point they will be mandatory and students will need to have them turned in prior to returning to school in person. If you have them completed, please email them to MinerESEnroll@k12.dc.gov.

With DCPS announcing the return to in-person learning on November 9th it is critical that families get the above mentioned documents turned in to the school as soon as possible. Failure to have the forms will likely result in a family forfeiting the seat they are offered.
