FJVD Weekly Info

We Live the Word!

From the Principal's Desk

Dear Father Doyle Families,

What an exciting and blessed week to be a part of the Father Doyle community! This year's Reading Week was certainly one to remember. We dropped everything and read, enjoyed numerous virtual guest readers, played Book Bingo (our virtual learners even got in on the fun!), and of course dressed up as our favorite book characters - plus much, much more!

It was a wonderful reminder that, while we still find ourselves in the midst of this pandemic, there is so much joy and goodness to be celebrated in our community! I want to thank all the teachers and staff who worked diligently to prepare this wonderful week.

Annual FJVD Read-a-thon - Thank you!

I am so thrilled and grateful to announce that, with a week still remaining, we have surpassed our Read-a-thon goal of $4,000! We are so thankful to all of you! A reminder that this year's funds will go in part to purchasing new and additional reading and language arts instructional materials. Last year, through a generous donation from Navigant Credit Union, we were able to purchase new reading supplies for our K-2 students. This year, we're looking to review and enhance reading instructional materials for grades three and up!

You can track our school's progress here: https://www.read-a-thon.com/school/Father-John-V.-Doyle-School_25605

It's not too late to participate in the Read-a-thon! If you have not already done so, we encourage you to activate your reader’s account today by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/whHlmJ and following the simple instructions.Thank you for joining us on this reading journey!

The Sport Court has Been Installed!

We're thrilled to announce that the Sport Court has been completed! Thank you to all who donates to this year's alumni appeal which funded this wonderful new addition to our school! We will be raising funds for built in hoops, fencing, and additional accessories at this year's auction in May.

The FJVD PTO Wants to Hear From You!

The PTO wants to hear from you! Join them March 29th at 7pm for their first Focus Group meeting to share thoughts, ideas and experiences, and help them to make next year even better! Your feedback helps us continue to enhance the overall student & family experience. Register to join them here.

FJVD Strong Auction Update

Thank you again to all the parents who have donated to our FJVD Auction and supported our small businesses! We could not do it without you! Many have asked what the auction may still need or what gift cards we have received. The auction committee has put together a “wish list” of items/gift cards that can be accessed here and they hope to publish a detailed list of what they have already received next week.

Reminder: Weekly Story Time Each Wednesday in March!

Get cozy and relax, then join us for Story Time on Zoom every Wednesday in March beginning at 7pm. Each week we will have a special guest from the FJVD family reading a story live for our PK-2nd grade students. Older students are welcome to join as well!

Sign up for any (or all!) Wednesday's you would like to attend, and a separate Zoom invite will be sent out for each night. Sign up at the link here: bit.ly/FJVDStoryTime. You can sign up for as many nights as you'd like!

Have a great weekend! God bless, and go Saints!

Sincerely,

Mr. Peloquin

Current RIDOH Quarantine Guidance (Non-Travel)

On December 10, 2020, the Rhode Island Department of Health released new Quarantine Guidance for confirmed close contacts of a positive case. A detailed summary of this guidance can be found here.

Generally, the guidance allows for:

  • 14 Day Quarantine for Immunocompromised and/or Long-Term Care Staff
  • 10 Day Quarantine for General Public (while continuing to monitor for symptoms)
  • 7 Day Quarantine with Negative Test at least 5 Days After Last Exposure

A reminder that the Department of Health is the only organization that can mandate a person quarantine. The school will continue to address necessary hybrid learning scenarios on a case by case basis in consultation with the Department of Health.

Hybrid Learning & Distance Learning Policies

As shared with families via email we have updated our Hybrid Learning and Distance Learning Policies and Procedures. You can find those changes outlined in the documents attached below, as well as linked here:

Distance Learning Opt-In Dates

In addition, you can view a brief video summary of the updates here. We hope these changes will help make hybrid and distance learning increasingly manageable and effective for staff, students, and families alike!

Probable Cases & Testing Procedures

The Department of Health has released additional resources for families regarding how to proceed if your child has symptoms at home or becomes ill at school. You can find the RIDOH Resources for Families here. Please note, if your child is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 that indicate a probable case, please call 844-857-1814 from 7:30am-9:30pm seven days a week to schedule a test through the K-12 Testing Network. You should also notify the school as soon as possible.

If your child is experiencing symptoms and is being tested, two tests will be conducted at the K-12 testing site - a rapid test with results within 24 hours, and a PCR test with results within 48 hours. Please note, students are not permitted to return to school until both tests are negative and symptoms have resolved. In addition, families must complete the After Illness Return Attestation Form which can also be found on the homepage of our school website under "Important Links."

A reminder that our hybrid learning policies for students absent due to illness or quarantine can be found in our Hybrid Learning Guide for Students and Families as well as in a quick reference guide here.

Aluminum Can Tab Collection

What: Aluminum can tabs are being collected

Why: To support the Ronald McDonald House in Providence

How can you help? Save can tabs and send them in to Mr. Godin’s room.

Bottle Cap Drive

We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This provides new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation.

All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.

Thank you!
