PES Principal Message
April 20, 2023
This week our 4th graders finished their first round of STAAR testing. Mrs. George did a wonderful job prepping staff and students and all put in their best effort. We have one more round on May 3rd and May 4th. We look forward to hosting visitors and volunteers on campus again tomorrow!
During this Volunteer Appreciation Week, we want to express our heartfelt "THANK YOU" for all you do to make Puster such a special place for our staff and students! While your work on our campus may sometimes be thankless, it does not go unnoticed!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Puster Proud,
Holly

Thank you for your help and support. It’s great to be a Leopard!
Attendance Updates
Attendance continues to be a top priority for Lovejoy ISD. It should come as no surprise that attendance has a direct relationship with student learning. Additionally, public school funding is provided by the State of Texas based on each district's average daily attendance (ADA).
Lovejoy has developed an Attendance Task Force consisting of staff, parents, and students to formulate ideas about how to positively impact ADA in our district. One suggestion is to update the community via weekly principal communication on the number of absences each campus has accrued YTD along with the budgetary impact of those absences. This information can be found below:

K: We are learning more about nonfiction text features, as well as noticing other types of nonfiction like biographies about famous women and other narrative nonfiction. We are practicing asking I wonder questions as we read and our curiosity. 1st: We are discussing evaluating media by learning about what is fake news. For this age level, that looks like discussion optical illusions, (perspective, angle, whole picture etc), discussion the difference between pretend and not pretend. 2nd: We are working on a guided inquiry for the topic of reduce, reuse, recycle. We are currently investigating our wonder questions using library resources, discussing keywords to search. 3rd: We are discussing evaluating media by learning about what is fake news. For this age level, that looks like differentiating between observation and inference, and determining credibility with evidence. 4th” Copyright: give credit + Book Review= Real world FUN We practiced writing book reviews, with a quote, then citing the author to give credit. We are learning about the benefits and challenges of respecting ownership and copyright. We hope your child will continue to create and to understand how we all benefit when we respect each other's work. This is one of the foundations of understanding copyright and an important part of becoming an ethical digital citizen.
