What's Up At The Nest...

Principal's Message

Dear OMS families,

The temperatures are starting to drop outdoors, but it's nice and warm at the nest! Students completed another wonderful week of learning, both at home and at school. We thank you, as always, for your ongoing support. Have a wonderful weekend!

In continued collaboration,

Erin, Julia, and the OMS Staff

P.S. A huge thank you to our PTA Beautification/Ecology Committee Chairs (Nancy Weber and Diane Beardmore) for our beautiful winter planters.

Tuesday, December 8th = Monday Specials Schedule

Tuesday, December 8th is a "Monday Specials Schedule"

In other words - kids will attend school in-person on Tuesday. For those students that have Art, PE, Music, or LMC on Monday they will have those specials again on Tuesday. All other aspects of our day will be considered a regular Tuesday. Please check with your classroom teacher for the daily schedule.

Why are there so many greyed out boxes on the report card?

The 1st trimester elementary report cards for the 2020-21 school year have been modified to account for the remote and hybrid learning environments. The beginning of this school year has included a later start date, an increased focus on students’ social-emotional well-being, the navigation of new technologies at home and school, and a bulk of student learning taking place remotely. Therefore, the district needed to pare down some grade-level standards for the 1st trimester. The standards that were not able to be sufficiently assessed during the first trimester are noted with grey boxes on the report cards. These greyed boxes are in addition to other standards that are not typically assessed during the different trimesters. While instruction was provided on all of the 1st trimester standards, teachers will continue to work on all subject areas and will report out on these standards in a future trimester.

Read to Succeed Tickets Extended

Unused tickets earned during the 2020 season will be valid through August 31, 2021.

Thank you for your participation in Read to Succeed. We know that this has been a trying year and because of this, we have extended unused 2020 Read to Succeed tickets through August 31, 2021.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to send us a note.

Sincerely,

The Six Flags Read to Succeed Team

Holiday Books - Around the World

Each year the OMS Principals celebrate the upcoming holidays by reading stories to our students and doing a service project. This year we will continue this tradition but it will look a little different. Details will be shared soon. As we were searching for a book to read, we reached out to our PTA Every Owl Counts Committee for book recommendations. We hope that you will find time to check some of these books out from the library or find them online to read with your children. If you have a book that you read with your child that highlights your family's culture please let us know. We would love to continue to add to our list!
