Student Success

I love this time of year! We have celebrated students who modeled positive behavior at our positive behavior parties. This week we are celebrating academics with our quarter awards ceremonies. And next week we have our school-wide spelling bee for our 3rd-7th grade classroom winners. There has been a lot of celebrating students and their success recently, and being with such amazing young people is a very humbling experience. Thank you again, for all you do to raise such wonderful young people and share them with us at Southside!

Yours in Education,

Ashley Doty

Happy Feet Soccer Coming to DCSS!

I recently met with one of the local directors for Happy Feet Soccer. With connections to the Jacksonville Football Club (JFC) and the Jacksonville Armada, I am thrilled to welcome them to our school! Currently, Happy Feet just offers after school programs for Kinder and 1st graders. They will be visiting their PE classes starting next week to give the students demonstrations on soccer skills.

We are working with them to see if we can pilot a program for older students as well, including 2nd-3rd, 4th-5th, and coaching a team for 6th-7th graders. While this pilot portion is still in the planning stages (and we cannot commit or promise anything at this point), I wanted to share this news with you!

A representative from Happy Feet will be at the PTC meeting on December 3rd (8:15am or 6pm). Please come out and sign up (kinder/1st) or just show your interest (2nd-7th) so that we can bring soccer to DCSS!

Community Partnership!

I want to send a huge thank you to all of our community partners who donated to our students for their awards ceremonies!

Please check the attachment in the email and see below for all of the locations that donated.

Better yet - be a patron at any of the locations, speak with the manger, tell them that you're from DCSS and you appreciate their support, get the manager to sign your receipt - and get 1 free volunteer hour!!!! Let's show these places that we can support them for supporting our students.
