ESL Support for Teachers

Some of you have expressed through your TTESS goals to grow in your capacity to more effectively reach our ELL students. Here is a great opportunity...

We now have two NEW online courses available for educators of ELLs: ESL TExES Certification #154 Preparation Course and Sheltered Instruction! These courses are FREE to our BE/ESL Coop districts. Both courses can be accessed through our Region 10 Online Learning Center. See below for the course descriptions, credit hours, and links to the online learning site.

ESL TExES Prep-Test #154 (12 credit hours) (You will need to log in before being directed to the course page.)

This 12-hour course is designed to prepare certified teachers to take the ESL TExES #154 for ESL certification and to develop a core set of competencies needed to teach ELLs. The following topics will be covered: language concepts and second language acquisition, ESL instruction and assessment, cultural awareness and family and community involvement.

Sheltered Instruction (3 credit hours) (You will need to log in before being directed to the course page.)

The purpose of this course is to give teachers a deeper understanding and adequately prepare them to implement the components of sheltered instruction in their classrooms. The training will explore strategies that make subject matter concepts comprehensible to English Language Learners (ELLs) while promoting the students' English language development.

These courses are monitored by instructors that will provide feedback on the course assignments. They are designed to assist teachers in serving their ELLs in the classroom. A certificate of completion will be available after proficiency is shown on all course assignments and assessments.

Celebrating Literacy

Have your book ready for your picture for Richardson Read Day. Also have a pose in mind. Ms. Calhoun will try to get to everyone next week. If any of you want to come to the library for your picture, that would be great.
