Message from Mr. Nieslanik
In addition, our students are attending events and wanting to be involved. I have had multiple students ask to join PEAC (Principal's Equity Advisory Council), wonder when clubs will begin, and ask how they can join student activities and committees. Our student attendance at football, volleyball and soccer events has been outstanding! SRHS spirit is strong and vibrant!
I also want to compliment our staff. They are working hard to ensure that their lessons are culturally relevant, thoughtful and engaging. With over 30 new certified and classified staff members, our staff is purposeful in creating strong relationships and collaborative structures. For us, the opportunity to collaborate and work together to improve instruction and address student achievement during Early Release Wednesdays is critical. We are thankful for this opportunity. Please know this time will be used to it fullest.
I hope you are able to join us as we rededicate our plaza and honor SRHS graduate Andrew Keller and all fallen servicemen during our Memorial Game on Friday, September 22nd.
Until next time,
David
ONLINE VERIFICATIONS
Paper Enrollment Verifications will be mailed to those who have not been able to complete their verification online. Please mark corrections/updates on the paper copy (just as we have done in the past) and have your student return it to the main office as soon as possible. We will input the changes.
If you receive a paper copy, but completed your verification online on or after Sept. 12, you can disregard the paper copy.
If you have not activated your ParentVue account (at least one parent account per household), you will still want to do that. Report cards will now be online via ParentVue.
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT, Oct. 4
The evening will start in the auditorium with a rousing presentation by Mr. Nieslanik. You will be released to walk through your student's schedule, see their classrooms and meet their teachers. You can visit the selection of student club and athletic team displays in the fishbowl, ask questions and meet the coaches.
Leadership students will also hold their annual Silent Basket Auction. The selection of items to bid on is always exciting and worth checking out - many good deals await! You do not need to be present to win; top bidders will be notified. (If you have items you would like to donate, please contact Joe Traeger, Activities Director.)
Watch for a BTSN email that will include an agenda for the evening and a reminder to bring your student's schedule. Mark your calendars for a Great Time!
p.s. Mountainside and SRHS's Back to School Nights were originaly scheduled on the same night. SRHS will stay on Oct. 4, but Mountainside has rescheduled their Back to School Night. Please check the MHS calendar for their new date.
HOMECOMING WEEK, OCT. 2-7
'Homecoming' dates back to the early 1900s when high school/college alumni were invited to 'come home' for the annual Big Game. Over the years, many homecoming traditions have been established, including Homecoming Courts, spirit-filled student activities during the week, and the Homecoming Dance.
Southridge will be celebrating our 2017 Homecoming Week October 2-7. The week will be filled with activities including Dress Up Days (TBD), selecting our Homecoming Court, and a boisterous Homecoming Pep Assembly. On Friday, Oct. 6, the Homecoming Parade will start at 6:30 and kick off vs Sunset HS is at 7pm.
And in the true spirit of homecoming, we are excited to add a new SRHS tradition - an Alumni Social. Former SRHS students are invited to meet in the 'Alumni Tent' at 6pm, walk in the Homecoming Parade at 6:30, and stay to cheer for their beloved Skyhawks against Sunset HS!
The Homecoming Dance will be Saturday, Oct. 7, 7:30-10pm. The theme this year is 'Footloose'. Dance tickets will be sold during lunches with early sale tickets only $15 the first week, Sept. 25-29, then $20 Oct. 2-6. Tickets will be $25 at the door. Students who wish to bring a non-SRHS student to the dance, must have an approved Guest Pass. See Mr. Traeger as soon as possible to get a Guest Pass form.
REMINDER
Metro League schools are in agreement that backpacks and open drink containers will not be allowed into athletic events. Please help keep the line moving at the check-in points by not bringing bags, backpacks or open containers.

Parents can register for a free SchoolCafe account on the SchoolCafe website. You will need to have your student's 6-digit school ID to do so, which you can get by contacting the school.
