Greetings AES Families!

This has been a transitional year for Aspen Elementary School. It is hard to believe that my first year as Principal is drawing to a close. I have learned so much about our school's strengths and areas of opportunity, and am continually grateful to be a part of this community of learners. Much has been accomplished this year, and there are many opportunites ahead.

As you know, we are on a three year authorization journey to become an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). We have also adopted new literacy curriculum (Wit and Wisdom) and continue to build our knowledge and skills in the science of Reading instruction. Recently, the district underwent a Science, Social Studies, and World Language curriculum audit. The audit highlighted that while the elementary level is in the process of aligning these content areas to the standards through our Literacy and PYP work, this is still an area in need of growth for us. Recently we have invested in an online teaching and learing platform called "Toddle" which will enable our PYP, curriculum specialists and teachers to develop and align all of our curriculum collaboratively. This work will be one of our major areas of school improvement in the upcoming school year.

Additionally, we will have several staffing transitions next year due to retirements, career changes and new positions. We have already hired two new kindergarten teachers and are in the process of hiring a 2nd grade teacher. Interviews will begin next week for our new Assistant Principal, and we are accepting applications for Special Education teachers, a School Psychologist and a Gifted and Talented teacher. We hope to have all of these positions filled by the end of May.

Congratulations to our 3rd and 4th graders who have successfully completed CMAS. We are proud of your hard work and best efforts on this assessment. Summer vacation is just around the corner! Please check out the summer oportunities below.

Have a wonderful week!

All my best,

Ashley Bodkins

Does your child ride the bus?

Bus Passes and Bus Changes:

If you need a new bus pass or want your child to catch a different bus home than usual, please visit the Transportation homepage. Links to the Bus Pass Replacement Form and the Bus Change Request Form can be found there. Students will not be allowed on a bus if they are not registered for a bus, and we will not be accepting handwritten notes or text messages from parents allowing students to ride a different bus.

As most of you know, there is a shortage of bus drivers and sporadically bus routes have to be cancelled. Please discuss a backup plan with your child for these scenarios. Sharing this plan with your child's teacher is always a good idea!

Aspen Elementary SKIERS

At AES our essential agreements guide the way we behave and interact with others throughout our school in every setting. This year, we've adopted the SKIER acronym as a way to frame our essential agreements school wide. We hope that you will reinforce these positive attributes with your child at home.
