Ozark Tiger E-News
WEEKLY NEWS HIGHLIGHTING OUR STUDENTS & STAFF
Ozark School District is seeking volunteers to help plan for the current and future growth of the District. Our goal is to evaluate and update our long range plan so we can properly manage our growth in a timely and fiscally-responsible manner. Stakeholders of the District — school staff, community leaders, business leaders, parents and patrons — are needed to help us establish priorities for this plan through a series of three planning meetings:
- Thursday, October 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Ozark Middle School.
- Thursday, November 8 TBD
- Tuesday, January 29 TBD
For more information or to register to participate on the task force, visit www.ozarktigers.org/longrangeplan.
OHS students started the day participating in a 9/11 remembrance at the flag pole before school.
Mrs. Maerke's ELA classes made memorial posters to hang around Ozark Middle School.
Third grade students at West Elementary wrote letters to first responders, thanking them for their service.
OJH eighth graders watched a webinar from the 9/11 Memorial and Museum and then work on an interactive lesson about the development of New York as a trade hub from its development as a middle colony. Thought question: "Why was it called the World Trade Center?"
East Elementary students in speech therapy completed various 9/11 activities, learning about emergency services in general, as well as firefighters and police officers. The students worked on therapy activities including articulation, understanding concept words such as same/different, following directions, pronouns, and reading comprehension.
Fifth graders at North Elementary remembered 9/11 with Patriot Day and the book “14 Cows for America.”
OJH ninth graders discussed what 9/11 means to them, what makes someone a hero and why memorials are important.
OHS World Cultures students participated in a live chat with the 9/11 Memorial Museum.

Book tasting
Sixth grade ELA students enjoyed a book tasting to sample books they can read this year. Students spent 5 minutes previewing a book to see what books hook them as a reader.
Tiger Track Enrichment
Tiger Track enrichment kicked off Sept. 11 during advisory at OHS.
This is a new program, allowing students with As, Bs and Cs to choose an enrichment to attend rather than staying in their advisory classroom. Courses include high-energy classes such as world of dance and volleyball intramurals; to classes where students can learn a new skill such as sewing, wheel thrown clay and welding; to random interests like Hogwarts appreciation, fantasy sports and stoic philosophy.
The purpose is to reward students with a fun break and to motivate and encourage other students to improve their grades so they can also participate.
Invitational Honor Choir
This past weekend, 11 Ozark students attended the Invitational Honor Choir at Missouri State University. They joined with 200 local singers for a two-day clinic with Dr. Cameron LaBarr, director of Choral Studies at MSU. The event culminated in a joint concert at Hammons Hall with the MSU Concert Chorale.
Key Club
OHS Key Club officers Josie Glenn, Bre Moore, Emma Satterfield, Caroline Taylor and Kaitlyn Short were introduced at the Sept. 11 Kiwanis meeting. Key Club is the oldest and largest student-led service organization for high school students and is part of the Kiwanis family.
College Fair
FCCLA
Ozark Junior High and High School FCCLA students participated in the life skills fair at MSU Sept. 7. Students learned about budgeting and life choices while walking through a simulation.
Cloud Nine
Third grade students at West are studying the water cycle. This week, students saw evaporation and condensation in action while making a cloud in a jar.
Nice knife skills
Ninth grade students practice their knife skills in Foods 1 class by making salsa.

City of Ozark Comprehensive Plan
The City of Ozark has partnered with the Southwest Missouri Council of Governments (SMCOG) to facilitate an update to the city’s 2008 Comprehensive Plan. A Comprehensive Plan serves as a community’s official guide for growth, land use and development. One of the first steps in the update process is gathering public input. SMCOG is asking Ozark residents to complete a short survey that serves as the guide to the city’s future. Citizens can follow along with the process via the online comprehensive plan. The update will conclude in December with a final draft to be presented in January.
