Holy Spirit Newsletter
Term 2 - Week 3 - Tuesday 14th May
School Motto
Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School is committed to the pursuit of Christian Truth & Excellence.
All members of the school community are encouraged to develop their potential and special qualities in an environment centred on Christ.
Hope
Dear Lord,
The Resurrection of Your Son
has given us new life and renewed hope.
Help us to live as new people
in pursuit of the Christian ideal.
Grant us wisdom to know what we must do,
the will to want to do it,
the courage to undertake it,
the perseverance to continue to do it,
and the strength to complete it.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ,
your Son, who lives and reigns with you and
Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents
We’re motoring into term 2 on the back of a wonderful Mother’s Day breakfast and Mass here last Friday. Thanks to all our parents who assisted in the preparations for the day and also to our teachers who provided the children with opportunities to make something special for their Mum. I hope all our Mums had a wonderful day with their families last Sunday.
This week NAPLAN testing takes place through the week for our students in Years Three and Five. As it is predominately an online process the testing runs into next week as well. We wish our students all the best for their NAPLAN experience.
The Confirmation candidates in the school and parish have their retreat day this Wednesday as part of their preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation scheduled for Sunday 9th June.
We have “Walk to School Day” this Friday where we encourage as many children as possible to walk or ride to school. Edu-Dance is in its third week and going along nicely, we look forward to the gala performance at the end of term!
Our next P&F meeting will be held here at school this Thursday evening at 7.00pm and all parents and friends are welcome to attend.
Our sincere condolences are with the Nutt family where Graham’s sister Caroline and his mother Rosemary sadly passed away just recently. Graham, Jo, Oliver, Charlotte and Jasper, are a huge part of the community here at Holy Spirit and our thoughts and prayers are with them all during this difficult and sad time.
Wishing you all a good week,
Regards
Steve Versteegen
Principal

Walk Safely to School Day - 17th May 2019
The annual event, which is in its 20th year, raises awareness about the long term benefits of walking for student's physical and mental health as well as cognitive and academic performance. Not to mention the benefits on the environment, learning about road safety and public transport.
We hope Holy Spirit students will join thousands of other students by walking to school on Friday and if you live too far away, simply park the car a bit further and walk the rest of the way!

P&F Funds in Action!
Our new Sports court was constructed over the April school holidays and we're sure you'll agree the wait was worth it! Students and parents are thrilled with the vibrant new surface that can be adapted for basketball, netball and a whole range of other sports and general activities.
A huge thanks must be extended to the whole Holy Spirit Community for their invaluable contributions of time, money and organisation to make this upgrade possible! Over $23,000 of P&F fundraising funds was spent with generous donations from other recipients making the final payment possible. We are sure a generation of children will be forever thankful!
A plaque commemorating the redevelopment will be organised by the P&F in honour of efforts of the Holy Spirit Community.
Mother's Day Breakfast & Mass
We also were able to incorporate a little fundraising effort on behalf of the Cancer Council in honour of Mums & loved ones no longer with us and we raised $275 towards the Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea! 6 lucky Mums also won beautiful hampers with items donated generously by Holy Spirit families.
Lastly, our Mums were celebrated with a beautiful Mass at Holy Spirit Church filled with beautiful prayers, stories and music.
We hope you all had a lovely Mother's Day!
