Classroom News!
Whoa! Every last one of us got a brand, spanking new pair of sneakers! Many thanks to the Siegel and Spiegel families. We had a ball running around in them together and then reading and singing "Pete the Cat, Rocking in my School Shoes."
We are slowly winding down our rich study of wild bears. Next week we begin reading stories and doing activities related to teddy bears.
We worked in pairs and used dice do some addition. Everyone had little objects to help with counting and we also encouraged the children to use their fingers as there is research to show that using fingers to count facilitates and cements arithmetic skills.
.
Sometimes, during Writers Workshop, all of us stop working to give one author a chance to read their story aloud. This is strictly voluntary but just about everyone is eager to share their latest work. Now that we are authors, we are learning a bit about punctuation. We talked about periods, question marks and exclamation marks!
Important Happening!
Wednesday January 30th is Teddy Bear Day !
Conversation Starters
* Ask your child to describe the "meetings" we have begun to have during Writers Workshop.
* Can you think of an example of an unkindness you saw? How did you respond?
* Is there a special sewing project starting in Kindergarten?
Poem of the Week
Bear
Bear, bear, bear, bear,
How many kinds of bears are there?
Polar bear and grizzly bear,
Big brown bear with lots of hair!
Spectacle bear, black bear, too.
Sloth bear, sun bear, quite a few!
Bear, bear, bear, bear!
So many bears to compare!
