What is the FAFSA and why do I need to do it?
It is not just for students going to a 4-year college. It is also for students pursuing a 2-year degree or trade or certification program.
Funds are given out on a first come, first served basis-- the sooner you complete yours, the better your offer may be.
2022-2023 FAFSA Incentives
- Students who provide proof of FAFSA submission to their counselor by 12/2 at 3:15pm will receive TWO final exam exemptions-- 1 for each semester. Students must only be passing the class to exempt the exam. There are no other requirements to meet!
- Students who miss the 12/2 deadline may still earn a final exam exemption for second semester by providing proof of FAFSA submission by 3/9 at 3:15pm.
- Any student who provides proof of FAFSA submission by 4/28 will participate in a group reward or celebration in May if we meet our building goal of 65%.
Annual FAFSA Workshops at WCHS
On October 4th and 5th we will call down ALL seniors to start the FAFSA process during the school day. Students should bring their Social Security or Alien Registration number and obtain their FSA ID ahead of time (see step 2 below).
FAFSA Family Night:
On October 11th and 17th we will host FAFSA Family Night in the WCHS library from 4:00pm-7:00pm. This is open to all seniors and their parents/guardians. We will have local college financial aid reps and our School Counseling team on hand to guide you through the FAFSA completion and filing process. We will be wrapping up promptly at 7:00pm so we recommend that you arrive no later than 6:15pm. Below you will find a list of materials you will need to bring with you. You may RSVP below but this is not required.

CONSIDER WORKFORCE AND TRADE CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS
If college isn't your cup of tea, there are options out there to help you get certified for a great career in about one year.
- MVCTC Adult Education provides great opportunities for students who are interested in pursuing a particular trade, medical/health care career and business and tech training. Visit http://www.mvctc.com/ae/programs/career to see a list of programs and how to get started.
- Sinclair Community College is now offering short term certificate programs in Home Health Aide and Patient Care Tech. Both programs can be completed in one semester and there are immediate job opportunities! To view all SCC certificate programs click here.
Financial Aid is available for these, so you will need to complete a FAFSA.
