January Character Trait-Individuality

Pirates R.O.C.K. (Raising Outstanding Character Kids) is a program designed to surround our families with examples of strong character traits through school experiences, at home, and reinforced in their community. Each month our community focuses on a specific character trait and students are recognized for exhibiting these traits: Self Confidence, Pride, Responsibility, Citizenship, Compassion, Individuality, Self Control, Integrity, Perseverance, Respect, Honesty, and Cooperation.

8th Grade Information

8th Grade Parents: Make Plans to Attend Curriculum Night - Monday, January 13, 6:30 p.m., PCHS Wilson Auditorium

As we reach the mid-point of the 2019-20 school year, PCHS is planning for the 2020-21 school year and is inviting parents and students to attend Curriculum Night. The purpose of Curriculum Night (formerly known as Parent Night) is to allow you to learn about each core class (English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) from the department's perspective.

We encourage both the student (current 8th graders) and parent(s) to attend so that all can receive the information about courses which are offered at Platte County High School. This will greatly assist you and your student in the planning process and in course selection for the 2020-21 school year. If you would like more information, please contact your student's counselor:

Becky Brandt, Barry Counselor.

Message from Nurse Kelly-7th Grade Families

It's not too early to start thinking about your student's required 8th grade immunizations! The State of Missouri requires all incoming 8th grade students to have a Tdap booster and a Meningococcal vaccine in order to enroll in 8th grade next year. While your student is out of school over winter break, have them get their vaccines and turn in an updated vaccine record to the health room when we return to school. You will have one thing to check off your to-do list to get your student ready for school next year

Excellence in Education

Every year we ask staff members to nominate people who show excellence in their craft. We had several nominees for both teaching and service. Congratulations to Destiny Eastep-Excellence in Education and Stephanie Richison-Excellence in Service/Support. These two fabulous ladies will represent Barry at the Excellence in Education Banquet in April.

Winter Weather

With the recent drop in temperatures and arrival of “white stuff,” it is time to begin planning for winter weather!

In the event of school cancellation, PCR-3 will get that information out as early as possible through automated phone calls and text messages, the District website, Facebook, Twitter, the District Hotline (816-858-2752), and local media.

Please visit the Winter Weather Information page on the Parents Tab of the district website for information regarding recess and clothing considerations (there will be no outdoor recess when the wind chill is at 20 degrees or below), cancellations, how the district will notify families, and Y-Club information.

Parents: If you haven't yet opted in to receive texts and wish do so, please text the word "YES" to 67587.
