Next Week's eLearning Packet Drop-Off
Next week, we will be collecting student work packets that have been completed over the past several weeks. Our collection day for...
- 4k-2nd Grade, Wednesday, April 29th from 9:00am-Noon
- 3rd-5th Grade, Thursday, April 30th from Noon-3:00pm
Our Goals: maintain safe conditions for material drop off and allow for lunch pick up on the same trip, if you choose. If you are unable to come on your scheduled day, or if you have children in both groups, you may come on either day. If you are unable to come next week, we ask that you send the materials with another family member or friend, if possible.
It is important that teachers have your child's work to evaluate their progress. This will help teachers in how to support students through the end of this year and when we return in the fall.
Note: If you have any library books, this would be a great time to return those as well.
Procedures: Drive through the front car line; no need to park. You may pick up lunch, if you wish, then pull to the front. Staff will direct you on when it is safe to exit your vehicle. You will place your materials in the appropriate grade level/ teacher bin, return to your vehicle, and drive away. Safety protocols will be in place to assure the well being of our families and staff, so please follow staff directives when you arrive. We really miss our families and look forward to at least seeing your face and waving hello!
Greenville County Soil & Water Essay Contest
Three cheers for 8th grader, Cort McGowan, and 5th graders, Fiorella Hernandez-Montero and Jeremiah Eller, who recently received recognition as this year's winners in the Greenville County Soil and Water Conservation District’s 77th Annual Conservation Essay Contest! Their essays on the topic “Where Would We Bee Without Pollinators” were selected as the best of over 100 submissions.
The grocery stores would be rather empty without the hard work of bees, birds, butterflies, bats and other pollinators. More than 80 percent of the world’s plants need pollinators to survive, including many that provide the food we eat. But today, many pollinators are in trouble and in decline. When pollinators shrink in number, many plants either produce less seed or no seed at all. That was the critical issue Cort, Fiorella, and Jeremiah unpacked in their winning essays.
State PTA Reflection Award Winner
State PTA Reflections Winners were announced earlier this week and 6th Grader Charlotte Metcalf was honored with an "Award of Merit" in the category of middle school music composition. Charlotte wrote the music and lyrics to the piece she entitled Planet B. When asked to provide a description of her work Charlotte stated, "This piece is about remembering that everything that we do has an impact on the earth, and that the earth is a gift that cannot be replaced."

GCS eLearning Resources
Playwright Damon Galgut said, "Things happen once only and are never repeated, never return. Except in memory.” The abrupt challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic presents an incredible opportunity to shift our collective paradigm, strengthening our teaching-learning continuum. As a school community, we seek to challenge the status quo; we are therefore thankful for the lessons we will glean from this unique experience. No doubt, we will come out stronger.

Parent Video for Google Classroom
Parents Guide to Google Classroom is an introduction to the eLearning platform used by GCS students in grades 3-12. The two-and-a-half minute video which compliments a slideshow that was already available on our eLearning webpage shows how teachers share assignments and how course content is accessed. It also explains how parents can receive an email summary of their child’s Google Classroom assignments, as well as teacher updates through the Parent Backpack. This video is available on the eLearning website.
