"A Dream Within A Dream":

Line 17: "Through my fingers to the deep"

"Dreams":

Line 22: "Came o'er me in the night"

"A Dream"

Line 4: "Hath left me broken-hearted"

Line 11: "Hath cheered me as a lovely beam"

Poe uses this syntactical style to create natural pauses when reading the poems as to create emotion and to emphasize him coming to the realization that nothing he experienced was real.

Theme

Poe used poetic elements such as consonance, personification, and a syntactical style of verb-subject-object to emphasize his losses to reality and the pain they inflict. For instance, the repetition of the letter L in the line "...in dreams of living light And loveliness,- have left my very heart" emphasizes how his happiness was crushed. His heart "[being] still upon the earth" shows how damaged he is as a result of waking from his dream to face reality. The verb-subject-object syntactical style, such as "shone on my slumbers in her lofty noon", creates natural pauses to show him losing hope. Poe masterfully uses these elements to show how him awaking from his dreams, where he is truly happy, destroys his soul once he faces the reality that he's alone and that none of his experiences were real.
