News from the Wolf Pack

November 18, 2013

5th and 6th grade students that I see during DEB have been completing Brainology. Brainology is a web-based computer program that is based on the work of Dr. Carol Dweck. The program teaches students to focus on improvement instead of worrying about how smart they are. Students then have the opportunity to apply what they learn. For instance, the students may be asked to write an action plan for a fictitious student using the knowledge they gained from that week's unit. I would encourage parents to discuss with their student what they are learning about.

3rd and 4th Grade DEB (Differentiated Engagement Block)

We are still working in our Questions unit. Students have been using questions to learn more about themselves and the world around them. We are currently working on writing a documentary on the ocean!

The students did a wonderful job completing our first unit on fractions. At conferences, we will be discussing the real world experiences and post-assessments students have completed!

5th and 6th Grade DEB (Differentiated Engagement Block)

We are still working in our Ages unit. Students had a wonderful time learning about coming of age in different countries and some had the opportunity to create their own ceremony. We have spent a great deal of time talking about age and how it influences advertising. Next time you are watching television and a commercial comes on, discuss with your student the demographics being targeted in the advertisement!
