March Portrait of a Graduate
Beginning this year, North Kansas City schools are implementing Portrait of a Graduate initiative. This program is designed to teach students different life skills that they can use to be successful. This month’s skill focuses on problem- solving. Students will be able to persevere to better understand their own challenges, recognize a problem, and come up with multiple solutions. We also hope that students will reflect on their past success and failures to solve a new problem. Nashua will encourage problem-solving by teaching classroom lessons, recognizing when a problem arises and verbalizing possible solutions, and setting weekly action steps. Problem-solving can be supported at home by talking about possible solutions as problems arise.
The action step that we have focused on this past week is:
I can recognize a problem and come up with multiple solutions
Next week's action step is:
I can persevere to better understand my own challenges

Family Fun Night: Family Fun Night is scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, May 20. It is a night of nearly free fun with your family and friends from Nashua. All of the games are free. We will have music and there will be a food truck!
But we need adults to volunteer as Game Makers to make it all happen. Game Makers will make, set up and tear down the class' activity that night; PTA will recruit teens to run the games, so you will not need to stay with it; Game Makers will coordinate with teachers so the kids know what their game is and to request that other parents donate prizes or game materials.
Don't forget - kids will vote for their favorite activity that night - if your class wins, you win a prize too! Set-up is between 4:30-5:15 p.m. Anyone who signs up to volunteer needs to put in the comment section of the sign up the game that you will be doing and if you need a table for your game.
