Principal's Note
Hidden River Families,
You can always tell when spring has sprung when the Hidden River bike rack is full! A reminder, the Grand and Summit Avenues are very busy in the morning and afternoons. Please take time to talk with your student about safe biking and walking practices!
As the weather warms, so does the temperature in the school building. We encourage students to use water bottles to stay hydrated and cool in class. Also, we encourage students to dress in layers. We are already seeing a lot of crop tops and short shorts. Please make sure your middle school student is dressed for school success!
An additional reminder, that students are only allowed after school if they are in FLIPSIDE or Athletics. Students crossing Grand Avenue for Sencha or other shopping are not allowed back in the building or on our after school buses.
Finally, we are now in quarter 4 and this quarter goes by quickly. Please take time to review your student’s Schoology account weekly to ensure they are staying on top of their assignments and assessments. Do not hesitate to email teachers with any questions regarding missing or late assignments.

As always, feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
Sincerely,
Principal Vibar

6th Grade Families: Due to the snow days in February, the field trip to see "The Latehomecomer" at the Ordway was canceled. However, we are happy to announce that the same 6th grade students will now be going to see a different performance at the Ordway on June 1, 2023. We will be seeing "The Reminders", a musical duo. Bike/Walk to School Day - Wednesday, May 3rd
Getting Ready to Bike…to School and Beyond
Hidden River is celebrating bike to school day May 3rd. Before taking your bike out for a ride make sure everything is in working order with the ABC Quick Check.
- A is for air. Check the air in your tires and make sure there is enough. You should be able to see how much air your tires need on the sidewall of the tire.
- B is for brakes. Give your brakes a squeeze and make sure they are working. Many bikes have brake pads on the rims of wheels. When you squeeze your brakes there should be at least a fingers-worth of space between your brake lever and the handlebar.
- C is for chain, cranks, and cogs. Take a look at your chain for general wear and lubrication. Make the cranks your pedals are attached are snug and don’t wiggle. Check the cogs that your chain moves over and see if there is any jumping.
- Quick is for quick releases. Many bike wheels have quick releases to make it easier to take wheels on and off the bike. Make sure your quick release is in the closed position and snug.
- Check your bike over. Check for any loose parts or things that may need to be tighten (like your seat post if you’ve grown a couple inches since you’ve last ridden your bike). Ride your bike around the block and see how it feels and if you need to make any adjustments.
Find more information on the ABC Quick Check with the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota: https://www.bikemn.org/mn-bicycling-handbook/before-you-ride/.
They also link to videos from Park Tool on how to make adjustments to your bike. Don’t forget your helmet! Check out Bike MN for how to make sure your helmet is correctly fitting your melon:
