Destiny and OneAccess

Destiny

Destiny is the Mallard Creek media center catalog. Teachers and students have access to Destiny through their NCEdCloud accounts. Teachers and students will use their NCEdCloud accounts to login to the catalog. Teachers can create resource lists that students can access in Destiny. Destiny has a wide variety of traditional books and e-books. There are ACT e-books in Destiny. OneAccess

OneAccess is available to all students through the partnership with Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Library. Teachers can request Teacher Loan cards to have access to the OneAccess resources and books even if they do not live in Mecklenburg County. OneAccess allows students to borrow books with their student id number and have access to all of the public library resources. · ABC-CLIO E-book collection: The ABO-CLIO E-book Collection is comprised of the Greenwood Digital Collection which includes the series Daily Life Through History, Critical Companions to Popular Contemporary Authors, Historic Events of the 20th Century, Literature in Context, as well as American Slavery. These e-books are viewed online and can be used for homework and research projects.

· ABI/INFORM: Complete ABI/INFORM Complete contains all your business research needs. Journal articles, trade publications, market research reports, dissertations, and working papers are all available.

· AccessScience: AccessScience covers all major scientific disciplines and includes 9,000+ encyclopedia articles, research updates, links to primary research material, plus videos, animations, charts, images, and biographies of scientists.

· Chadwyck-Healey Poetry Collection: Chadwyck-Healey Poetry Collection is a collection of poetry databases providing full text access to American, African-American and English poetry. Also contains the Faber Poetry Library collection, which includes some of the most influential poets of the twentieth century.

· Charlotte Observer: Newsbank provides access to articles appearing in the Charlotte Observer newspaper from 1985 to the present. Articles are searchable by name, word or phrase.

· Films on Demand Video Collection: Films on Demand offers thousands of high quality streaming videos on business & economics, health & medicine, humanities & social sciences, and science & mathematics, as well as travel and fitness programming, home and how-to videos, indie films, and popular music performances. Includes Oscar, Emmy and Peabody award winning documentaries, interviews, instructional and vocational training videos, historical speeches and newsreels.

· Freading: Freading is an e-book service of over 50,000 titles from a variety of small and independent publishers that allows for multi-user downloads so they are always available. You never have to wait for a title! Freading includes fiction, self-help, e-books for Spanish speakers, language learning, and more. Customers are allowed 3 e-book checkouts each week. E-books can be viewed on desktop computers using Adobe Digital Editions. Mobile and tablet customers, download the Freading app for iOS and Android.

· Freegal: Freegal is a downloadable music service offering free access to thousands of artists, tens of thousands of albums, and millions of songs in over 100 genres of music. Also available are approximately 15,000 music videos to download. Charlotte Mecklenburg Library customers get 5 free downloads (songs are 1 download and videos are 2) and 3 hours of streaming each week. Once downloaded, the songs or videos are yours to keep! Mobile and tablet customers, download the Freegal app for iOS and Android.

· Learning Express Library: Learning Express Library is an interactive database with over 25 practice tests ranging from the GED & ASVAB to standardized exams for students and professionals. Learning Express Library has ACT, SAT, and AP exam practice tests.

· Pronunciator: Pronunciator is a language learning service covering 80 languages offering a range of language skills, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

· Teen Health & Wellness: Provides middle school and high school students with nonjudgmental, straightforward advice and self-help support. Topics include diseases, drugs, alcohol, nutrition, mental health, suicide, bullying, green living, financial literacy, and more.

· Tutor.com (live homework help): Get free homework help from a live, online, qualified tutor—up to 10 free tutoring sessions each week! All you need is a library card and an Internet connection. You can use Tutor.com from home, school and even the Library. K-12 students can get help in English or Spanish in a wide range of subjects including math, science, English, social studies and essay review.

Hours

  • English: Daily from 4 p.m. to midnight.
  • Spanish: Sunday to Thursday, 4 p.m.-10 p.m.

Closed: New Year's Day (January 1), Independence Day (July 4), Thanksgiving Day (November 26), and Christmas Day (December 25).

· Zinio: Zinio is a digital magazine service with hundreds of magazines to view online on your PC, tablets and smart phones.
