A Message from Mr. DiFilippo
Like me, I know that many of you are disappointed that we will not return to school until after, April 24th. What I am not disappointed in, is the way that our community has rallied together during this trying time. I am continually amazed by the work that our staff, parents, and students are doing to keep the learning going! After these past two weeks of Digital Learning, I know we are all looking forward to Spring Break next week.
Digital Learning Days will resume on Monday, April 6th. Also that day, student meals will once again be available for pick up or delivery at school bus stops. Information about student meals will be updated during Spring Break and will be available on the GCPS website. Plans for the week of April 13 will be communicated soon after Spring Break ends. For now, I hope you all stay well, keep safe and enjoy a restful break.
Sincerely,
Mr. Mike DiFilippo

Student Placement for 2020-2021 - Deadline Extended!
Dear Parents,
We realize that many of you have had a lot on your plate over the past few weeks. With that in mind we have extended the deadline to submit requests for student placement for the 2020-2021 school year until Sunday, 4/5. Please read below for more information.
When considering student placement for the upcoming school year there are several criteria we consider to ensure academic success for all of our students.
Our job is to ensure that there is a highly-qualified, passionate teacher in every classroom who believes that all students can learn, and challenges each child to meet his/her potential. Each teacher provides a safe and secure environment for students, and each teacher works with the others on the grade level to plan rigorous yet differentiated lessons.
However, even though our teachers provide input on unique student needs, if you have a concern, we want you to be able to share that information with us. You can do so by completing this electronic form. Deadline to submit form(s) has been extended until Sunday, April 5, 2020. We will not be able to accept forms after that date. The form allows you to write about the type of learning environment that will be most successful for your child, along with any additional information that should be considered. Please note, we do not honor specific teacher requests in the placement of children at Dyer.
Counselor's Corner
I am available by email for parents or students at dawn.garner@gcpsk12.org. An appointment to talk by phone for parents or students can be setup by email as well. I am here to help!
Once every 6 weeks, students have a lesson with the counselor called "Guidance" instead of their media special. All students have access to my eclass page called "Mrs. Garner's Counseling Page." The week of Mar. 16 to 20 was 4th grade, and Mar. 23 to 27 was 5th grade. The lessons are still available if students have not completed them. The week of April 6 to 10 will be Kindergarten. Thanks for your support in making sure your students do these lessons!
Below is some valuable information from Children's Healthcare of Atlanta regarding how to talk to your children about Covid-19 if they are anxious or have questions. Please reach out to me if you need support. We are so proud of how hard the students (and the parents!) have been working!
