A Message from the Director
Parents and students,
This week is packed with STAAR testing, TCC final exams, and TCC graduation on Saturday! Students make sure you get plenty of rest, eat breakfast, relax and do your best! You are prepared! Don't let worry or stress keep you from being focused this week whether is a college final or a state exam! You've got this!
What a wonderful morning this past Friday as we celebrated our class of 2019 and their next step decision! This class is ready for their future with over 7.75 million dollars of scholarship money and they are closing in on 100% with a school commitment for the fall. I can't begin to tell you how proud I am of our CA Senior Class 2019! They have set the bar high for all future Phoenixes to achieve! Way to go Seniors! #Phoenixstrong!
Our Phoenix Family Organization got off to a great start last Tuesday night! We had 15 parents and 4 CA staff members here to begin our vision of how we can all work together to support our students! Our next meeting is June 5 from 6pm - 7:30pm at the PDEC Panther Den. Food and childcare will be provided! I will be sending link for you to sign up in the next couple of weeks, but put the date on the calendar and plan to attend. We need you! 2 hours, 4 years, 2 diplomas!
Reminder:

You will not be able to exchange your laptop without the charger or proof that you have paid for it.

staar information
This week is STAAR EOC testing for Algebra I (Tuesday, May 7), Biology (Wednesday, May 8), and US History (Wednesday, May 8). We will also have a few students taking the US History EOC on Friday, May 10 due to conflicts with TCC final exams.
For students who will be taking an EOC this week, we will email the testing room assignments to their student email accounts.
All non-testing students will attend school as usual on these days, but some classrooms will be displaced to alternate locations. We will email displacement locations to student email accounts as well.
For parents who have students testing, we need your help. Please make sure your students get a good night's sleep and eat something for breakfast on the morning of testing. Some high school students get far less sleep than they need, so this might be a good week to turn off the electronic media or change the wifi password.
Students will be allowed to have water with them during the test so long as it is in a container that can be closed.
COUNSELORS'S CORNER
Summer School – College Classes:
Current Sophomores and Juniors who are wanting to take college summer classes – please be sure to register for your college Summer I and Summer II Classes by Wednesday, May 15, 2019 in WebAvisor. This deadline is in place so that Collegiate Academy has time to order your college text books for you as our office hours are limited during the summer. Please make note that if you register for a summer college class after our May 15 deadline, you will be personally responsible for purchasing/paying for the required textbooks for those classes.
Summer School – High School Classes:
Students wanting to take high school summer classes through GCISD for initial credit or credit recovery, please note that the online registration will close at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 1. For additional information about GCISD’s high school summer school classes, please view the attached Summer School Information handouts, see Mrs. Miller, or visit the district website: https://www.gcisd.net/parents/summer_programs/secondary_summer_school.
Seniors – Will you graduate with your high school diploma?
Seniors, if there is a chance that you may earn a final grade of 69 or below in one of your current college classes, you could be in danger of not receiving your high school diploma. Please see Mrs. Miller as soon as possible if you are in danger of getting a D in one of your college classes so that we can work with you to ensure that you get your required high school credit. Also, if you have recently dropped a college class please stop by and see Mrs. Miller to double-check that you do not need that class for high school graduation.

Helping Hands Book
Collegiate Academy's Helping Hands and Illustrator Clubs are writing and illustrating picture books that will be delivered to a school in Jalisco, Mexico this summer. The primary purpose of the books is to give young learners books that will help them learn the English language.
See this link for more details about Libros of Love:
We are currently seeking support from parents and community members in these two ways:
1) Donations of published English/Spanish picture books.
2) Donations towards the cost of printing copies of the student-created books.
Please contact robin.young@gcisd.net or lauren.jackson@gcisd.net if you have any questions or would like to donate.
Class of 2020 Mock Interview May
We have just begun our final Pathways adventure of the year, the culmination of which is a mock interview for a career of the students choosing. Students will use real professional job postings to research requirements, build a resume, and secure an interview for that job. Each member of the class of 2022 will be interviewing for this job as their "future possible self" who has the degree(s), certification(s), and experience required for the position.
We are in need of parents, community members and business leaders who want to support the growth of our amazing scholars here at Collegiate Academy. Please consider signing up for one or more time slots to serve on an interview committee.
On behalf of Collegiate Academy's Class of 2022, thank you for the generous donation of your time and talent.

Scholarships for College-Bound, High School Seniors
A great source of scholarship money for families looking for college funds may be their own employer(s). Many companies offer scholarships for their employees or their children, but it may not be common knowledge. It pays, literally and figuratively, for parents to take the time and ask their human resources liaison if such scholarships exist. This is especially true if you work for a larger corporation or a more established company.
Once the graduating senior has been accepted at a particular college, they need to meet with a financial aid officer at the school to find out what scholarship resources the school may have to offer for a shortfall in college money. Often, schools can cover some of the remaining cost or recommend the student for a scholarship.
