February News!
La Porte Elementary
Greetings Leopard Families,
In addition to our monthly fire drills, this month we will again practice all of our School Safety Drills. These are the same drills that were practiced in the fall. Attached is a copy of our Standard Response Protocol. See the dates for each drill below.
The week of February 13th, the cafeteria will be closed to visitors due to Benchmark Testing. We will be simulating all of the campus procedures that will be implemented later this spring during STAAR testing days.
Please take a moment to review the parent letter attached below. This letter shares information about accessing our school report card. This information is required to be shared with families each year.
Please do not send your child to school with glass water bottles. We have had two different occasions this week where a glass bottle was dropped, shattering glass all over the floor. Fortunately, quick responses by teachers, kept any students from getting injured.
Thank you for getting your students to school this week. We had three days where we hit our goal of 95% attendance. It makes a HUGE difference when children are here to get the first hand instruction provided by their teachers, instead of learning through "make-up" assignments.
If you haven't already, make sure you text 81010 to @lpefam to receive text message notifications and reminders of upcoming events.
Looking forward to continued greatness,
Karen Lawley

Greetings, Leopard Families! Wow, it is already February. Our character trait for the month is Empathy. This is the ability to notice someone else’s emotions and imagining how they might feel if you were them. Then just being there for them so they feel supported. This is one of the most powerful ways of making a difference in the lives of others. We cannot always fix someone’s problems, but we can offer a listening ear and show them they are not alone. I look forward to discussions about all the kindness and compassion on display at LPE this month and every month.
On another note, The Bay Area Assistance League has been providing snack bags for students. They generally have an individual serving of microwavable pasta, oat bar, treat and juice in each one. If this would be helpful for your student and family, please let me know. Everyone is welcome to them.
As always, please reach out if I can help your child or family in any way.
