Chaplain's Corner: “Tis the Season to be Jolly"
Jolly is an old fashioned word we don’t use very often other than around Christmas time, and normally we only use it to describe Santa. The word jolly means happy and cheerful. Are you jolly? Would you consider yourself to be a happy and cheerful person? Why or why not? Are your kids jolly, happy, and cheerful? Christmas is a fun time of year, but a lot of people struggle during the holidays. Instead of a holly, jolly Christmas, many have a blue Christmas.
It’s the message behind Christmas that really brings us happiness and true joy. The angel appeared to the shepherds and said, “I bring you good news of great joy for all people. Today a Savior has been born!” Christmas is about Jesus and the birth of a Savior is good news of great joy for all of us. It’s good news of great joy for you and your family.
These are the things we’ve been teaching your players at practice during the month of December. Our last few themes have been…
· Jesus includes everyone. (Christmas is for all people.)
· God’s promises are true. (We know this because he promised to send Jesus.)
· I can find great joy in Jesus. (Christmas means good news of great joy.)
My prayer is for you to experience the joy of Christmas…the joy that only Christ can bring. Have a holly, jolly Christmas!
Christmas Celebration: A Red Carpet Event
A slide show of the year's activities was playing as athletes and family members arrived highlighting the tournaments, spring break and summer camps, running club, teams events and the club's first ever 5K run.
Club Chaplain, Jeff Francis shared the Christmas story and reminded everyone the importance of that story for today. Kay and David gave an update on the mission work in El Salvador by detailing there trip last summer.
As usual, there was more than enough food to feed everyone! Thanks to everyone who contributed in making this night special.

2017, Where did the Year Go?
Well, we say this every year, but 2017 really did! And it has been an exciting year for SCAC!
In the Spring, as our soccer teams continued their seasons, we held our first ever Goalkeeper Camp led by Coach Cesar Espana. Around this same time SCAC was officially recognized as a 501c3 (not for profit organization) by the IRS. Attaining this status was the culmination of months of work and put the Club in a great position to further meet its mission.
In June, we kicked off our first running club program. Fourteen young runners participated in the 9 week program, practicing twice each week. Two weeks later, we held our annual Summer Camp. With 70 participates it was the largest camp we have conducted. Our talented coaches did a great job challenging young athletes to be better players and to remember that God must be central to their lives.
July is the time that players commit to teams for the upcoming soccer year. 44 players signed with SCAC. Also, during July, Coach Kay and Coach David Flores made their annual trip to El Salvador to conduct soccer camps, coach training and ministry outreach.
The SCAC Board appointed Jeff Francis Club Chaplin in July. Among other responsible, Jeff prepares the weekly devotionals for coaches to give at practice.
As August started, the SCAC 5K was held on the SAGU campus for all Summer Running Club participants and all soccer team players. Everyone had a great time running, hearing from Chaplain Jeff and receiving the Action Bible New Testament.
In the month of October, friends and family of the four SCAC soccer team's donated dollars for each goal scored. These funds were on behalf of Kristen, a 13 year old soccer player and family of our players who has been battling leukemia for over two years. By the end of the month the Club was able to present a check for $1,500.00 to the Sanchez family on November 5.
As part of our Christmas Celebration, the Club "adopted" families from the area that are going through hard times. Each team purchased much needed items for these families.
We have much to be thankful for as we look back at our year. Thanks to each of you for allowing SCAC to be part of your lives.
Happy 2018!
