High School Highlights
Weekly Updates from Big Walnut High School
November 6, 2020
It looks like the weather is going to be unseasonably warm this weekend, so we hope you are able to get outside and enjoy some relaxation with your family! A reminder that our Academic Boosters will meet on Monday, at 6:30 p.m. in the high school Innovation Center. This group exists to improve the academic experience for all students while they are at BWHS. They do a great job of recognizing our students and staff and they would love your help and support!
Many of our normal events and activities are happening for our students, but they look different this year. We want to make sure you are still able to access the necessary information to help your student(s) make the best decisions for their future. See this newsletter for information on virtual ways to explore the Delaware Area Career Center, virtual college fairs, digital FAFSA help and more!
Additionally, our third round of (virtual) parent-teacher conferences will be THIS Thursday, November 12, from 4:00-7:30. Please contact the main office if you'd like to schedule.
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers, school counselor or the administration if you have any questions or concerns. Feel free to contact the main office at 740-965-3766 between the hours of 7:00 and 3:15.
Second Semester Learning Options
If you would like to change your child’s learning option for the second semester (switch between in-person learning and our Virtual Learning Program), please visit the front page of our website to complete a form. YOU ONLY NEED TO COMPLETE THIS FORM IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE YOUR CURRENT SELECTION. You must complete a separate form for each child. Selections must be submitted by Monday, November 16 so we have time to make staffing adjustments for the second semester, which begins Tuesday, January 5. Because staffing will be adjusted based on the numbers in each option, changes will not be permitted during the second semester. Due to staffing and space constraints, students may not be placed with their current teachers or may not be able to attend their home buildings. If students are assigned to buildings outside of their elementary attendance zones, transportation will be provided.
If you have questions, please email VLP Coordinator Ginna Crawford at ginnacrawford@bwls.net.
Delaware Area Career Center
Normally this time of year our students and families can visit and explore their elective options at Delaware Area Career Center. DACC is an off-site super elective offered through our high school to give your child college & career exploration opportunities, college credits, industry credentials, and so much more. As much as DACC would like to welcome visitors, virtual is the new reality and safety comes first.
DACC has compiled all new resources on the DACC Explore webpage for future students and families to learn about DACC without ever leaving home including:
- Coming soon! New 360-degree, interactive virtual tour
- Video demos/interviews with instructors & students
- Virtual Admissions office hours
- Employer and College meet-ups
Virtual Admissions office hours: Join an admissions representative as we bring you key details about DACC's unique and engaging curriculum for high school students. Learn how DACC students graduate with confidence, earn industry credentials and college credits, gain professional contacts, create an impressive resume, and get actual experience that employers and colleges value.
COMING SOON! Explore DACC’s Virtual Campus: The brand-new Google Earth-style, 360-degree virtual tour of DACC launches next month. DACC invites you to be the first of many to “drop-in” and navigate through their building to see the hands-on labs and learning spaces where students maximize their learning.
Interested in learning about DACC? We invite you to sign up for the Prospective Student mailing list for important admission and virtual visit updates this fall!
