Student Arrival and Departure
If you are dropping off your student after 8:35am, we ask that you walk them into the office to be signed in.
If you are picking up your student for an appointment we ask that you come into the building to sign them out. Students will be called down to the office upon your arrival.
When picking up students at the end of the day, please pull as far forward as you can, and continue to do so as vehicles leave. In order to maximize the number of students that can enter their vehicle at one time, we'd like vehicles to pull up to the main entrance door, just in front of the cross walk. This allows us to get more vehicles in line faster, and out of the street.
*We are asking that students remain on the sidewalk, close to the building, if they are being picked up in the school parking lot. This will assist with student supervision and safety after school.

website | info sheet | petition
The Bettendorf Community School District is seeking signatures to allow a General Obligation Bond to come to the public for a vote. The bond proposition proposes allowing the district to increase the property tax rate, up to $2.70, to fund a significant portion of needed improvements at Bettendorf Middle School and Bettendorf High School.
We invite parents, staff and community members to help obtain signatures for the Bett GO Bond Petition. Please submit signatures by Jan 16 to your school office or the district administration center. More information is available on the district website or bit.ly/BettGOBond.
Classroom Spotlight
Appropriate Dress
Students should be dressed appropriately for recess every day. The school policy is that students will go out every day for recess unless it is raining, the wind chill is below zero degrees, or the heat index is above 100 degrees. A doctor’s excuse must be provided if requesting a student stay inside during recess.

Nurses Notes
Help prevent falls this winter by reminding your student about winter/ice safety (here is a fun video they may enjoy!):
1. Make sure your student has proper winter shoes (and remind them to “walk like a penguin”)
● Bend slightly and walk flat-footed.
● Keep your center of gravity over your feet as much as possible.
● Point your feet out slightly – well, like a penguin.
● Shuffle your feet and take short steps.
● Watch where you are stepping.
2. Remind students to use handrails when walking outside, if possible.
3. Clear snow and ice from sidewalks/driveways at home to ensure kiddos are safe on their walking commute to school.
It is important to follow our UPDATED BCSD Nut Aware Daily Snack & Celebration List when selecting daily snacks, or birthday treats, to send to school. In order to keep all of our students safe, items that are not on the list may not be brought into classrooms. Please reach out if you have questions about specific items.
Do I Send My Student to School Today?
School is very important, but there are times when students need to remain out of school due to illness related symptoms. The Bettendorf School Nurses encourage you to use the following guidelines to help determine if your student should be sent to school. If your student exhibits any of the following symptoms, we ask that they be kept out of school until they are symptom free for at least 24 hours without the use of medication to control the symptoms:
Fever of 100.4 F. or above, even in the absence of other symptoms
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Uncontrollable cough
Unexplained rash
When everyone follows these guidelines, we can ensure a healthier school for both students and staff and reduce illness related absences!

Counselor's Corner
Our future ready language theme this week is "we don't have to be best friends, but we do have to be respectful". We do not have to agree and be best friends with everyone we meet, but it is important to show respect and empathy. We have been focusing on diversity and respect in our classroom counseling lessons. Understanding and accepting people's differences is an important life skill! Check out these articles to help with teaching kids respect at home:
