Newsletter Term 1 Week 4
St Patrick's School Masterton 2nd March 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of the season of Lent. Lent is a beautiful way to remember Jesus’ sacrifice for us and prepare us for the Easter season. During Lent, we remember the 40 days that Jesus spent in the desert being tempted by the devil. We do extra prayers, fasting, and looking out for others in need, during this season of Lent. Ash Wednesday has many traditions for Catholic families and ways to observe this day, and also, anything you are doing for the length of Lent will start on this day.
This morning all children took part in liturgies to celebrate Ash Wednesday led by Chris Connor our Director of Religious Studies (DRS), Chris Connor:
During this phase we ask that you as parents and whanau please continue to:
keep a really close watch of your whānau for anyone with symptoms
if anyone has symptoms and/ or is unwell, please keep them at home and get advice about getting a COVID-19 test.
if your child tests positive please ensure they isolate for ten days
please let us know here at school about any positive tests for children
As the term and school year progress we will keep you informed of activities and events that we are able to run for the children and community. Please be assured that we are trying to keep everything as normal as possible for the children and engage them in consistent learning routines. Thanks for your ongoing support in these difficult times.

Term 1 School Theme
Principle: ‘Human Dignity’
Enduring Understanding: I am beautifully made in the image and likeness of God
Whakatauki: He Kura te tangata - The human being is precious
Further detail for parents/ caregivers - Every single person is created in the image of God. Therefore they are invaluable and worthy of respect as a member of the human family. The dignity of the person grants them inalienable rights – political, legal, social, and economic rights. This is the most important principle because it is from our dignity as human persons that all other rights and responsibilities flow.
Gospel Reading
Joel 2:12-13
The Lord says: Repent, change your ways and return to me. Let your broken heart show your sorrow. Come back to your God who is kind and merciful and always ready to forgive.
Fast from discontent, feast on thankfulness
Fast from worry, feast on trust
Fast from anger, feast on patience
Fast from self concern, feast on compassion for others
Fast from unrelenting pressure, feast on mindfulness and prayer
Fast from bitterness, feast on forgiveness
Fast from discouragement, fest on hope
Fasting in any area of our lives fosters humility and gratitude and brings us closer to God and each other
2022 St Patrick’s School Enrolments
enrol their child at St. Patrick’s to do so now. This is especially important for children who are turning five this year as unexpected enrolments mean that we may have to change our organisation and Structure. Thank you for your support in this.
