In order to make the best of the information that you gather, you have to make sure that you appreciate certain characteristics of good data.
There are different types of information that can have different effects on how good the information that you receive is.
Qualitative and quantitative information can both make your information quality increase.

Qualitative data is information that has lots of description and context put into it. In order to make the information classed as good quality, depending on the nature of the information, qualitative data will need to be sued where some description will need to be added.

Quantitative data is information that is mainly made up from numbers. This will make the information high quality for a small business if they need to show statistics in a easy uncluttered way. Since the information is all mainly numbers, there is no description needed as all their information is right there for user and anyone else to look at.

Primary and secondary data are also used in order to get good quality information for small businesses.
Primary data is information that is created first hand from the organisation itself. It has used whatever information it can get and has created its own data. This will make their information high quality as, since it's their own, it's completely relevant to the actual organisation and they can then use that data to compare other pieces of information in different time scales.

Secondary data is information that has been taken from outside sources, this being books or the Internet. Secondary data can actually make a small businesses information good as they can use the secondary data to back up or compare what they have originally found from their primary data.

The purpose of the information also needs to be understood, this includes understanding the characteristics of the data in order for it to meet its purpose
Information that's fit-for-purpose, this is data that is whole, and that is unbiased towards a certain brand or category. This would make the information good quality as it will show all of the information that the business needs, and since it will be whole, everything they need will be there.

Having relevant information will mean that they have good information in this small business, There is no point having information that doesn't relate to what they are trying to show, or that doesn't relate to what goes on within the business. having the relevant data, that the only information there is what the data is trying to show, will give you good information.

The information also needs to be understandable to the users and people that will be using it. if people that are looking at the information and don't understand what it is saying because it's not explained or labeled correctly, then the information that they have has not served its purpose.
The information needs to have these data characteristics so it has purpose, making the information quality a lot better than without.

Sources of information can either make the quality of the data good or bad depending on which route they take.
Having a reliable source will make the information very good quality. A reliable source will give the best results when it comes to getting the data, especially from those companies that are renowned for their reliability. This will give good quality information as it's from a trustworthy source, and it will give accurate results, compared to data that comes from a company that is known for deceiving and isn't very accurate in the information it provides. When you don't know where the information has come from, it may come with sketchy results that may seem unreal, and since there is always the chance that they will be giving unrealistic data, customers may catch on as what they are being provided isn't good quality information that matches the real world.
