Move-a-thon Bingo Fundraiser 11/16-11/30 (EXTENDED)
We want to inspire our kids and grownups to move more, as the weather is shifting and the thought of getting out and being active isn't the first thing people think of. Instead of running or walking the track like during our annual Fun Run, kids can choose different activities to move and be sponsored by family and friends. We will have prizes for donations collected and for top sponsorship. The goal is to have fun, move, get more creative in movement and support our school in fundraising.
The goal is to complete a BINGO - across, down or diagonal or a BLACKOUT as sponsorship.
Here are the links to the BINGO card, and information regarding how set up your child's fundraising page. Fundraising will be 100% on-line (checks need to be mailed to the school by Nov 24). No cash this year to minimize contacts and time. Questions? Reach out to Dana Andress at painted_eq@hotmail.com, or your child's teacher.

Angel Tree Giving Opportunity 11/9-12/11
This year, our Angel Tree will be supporting 15 Jackson families. Jackson has an Amazon Wishlist set up with their wishes/ needs. The list contains household items, coats, shoes, pants, socks, underwear, pjs, toys as well as toiletries. Amazon.com.The Wishlist should be set up to mail to Dana Ewert's house directly. Just in case that doesn't work, the delivery address is 2809 NE Jackson School Road, Hillsboro, OR 97124.
In addition, we will also be collecting grocery store gift cards for each family. Those can be dropped off at Jackson Elementary School at the lockbox directly outside our main doors.
We are also looking for 2 lamps, 2 end/side tables, a small kitchen table and chairs, and a twin bed in very good used condition. If you have one of these items to donate to our families, or have any questions, please contact Dana Ewert at dm.ewert@frontier.com.
To support this, our student council is also running a coin/giftcard drive. They will be speaking with homerooms this week through Google Meets regarding directions. I just LOVE the hearts of our kids!
Return to School Update
As you know, the Governor held a news conference Friday announcing new restrictions in Oregon. Please see this link for an overview of the new restrictions. We are expecting additional clarification from ODE and the governor’s office in the next week, and the Hillsboro School District will share that information as it becomes available. Here is what we currently know regarding how the restrictions will impact schools:
- We will continue to support ALL Jackson students in the comprehensive distance learning model, until the metrics support returning to in-person learning
- Schools should be closed to the general public (including playgrounds)
- Walk up supply pick up will continue
As a school community, we miss our kids terribly, and we are anxious to return to in-person learning. Here are some helpful tips outlined in an email sent to families and staff last week. Together, we can have an impact on reversing the trend of upward case counts, and get the kids back in person sooner:
- Wear a mask
- Maintain at least 6 feet of physical space between yourself and others
- Limit interactions with people outside of your immediate household
- Cover your coughs and sneezes
- Wash hands and use hand sanitizer frequently
- Stay home if you don't feel well
NOVEMBER IS NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH
November is Native American Heritage Month, a time for us to recognize and celebrate the many contributions of first Americans to the establishment and growth of the U.S. The first “American Indian Day” was held in May 1916 in New York state. In 1990, President George H.W. Bush declared the month of November “Native American Indian Heritage Month” across the country. Similar nationwide proclamations have been made each year, under slight name variations, since 1994.
