News from Mrs. Mankin
Dear Bulldog Families,
Hopefully, your student is adjusting well to our early start times and the new learning routines in his/her classroom. Mrs. Lee and I visit several classrooms every day as well as interact with students at lunch and during recess. We are noticing that our classroom communities are really starting to strengthen as students learn more about themselves (as learners/thinkers), their classmates, and their teacher. We are impressed with the connections that students make not only with each other but also with previous learning and experiences.
We were both fortunate to teach a few classes of STEAM this week. I loved the problem-solving and teamwork exhibited by students as they interacted with the iTrax Critical Thinking Game to solve manipulative-based maze problems. We first read a book called What Do You Do With a Problem by Kobi Yamada. This book is beautifully written and illustrated, sharing the important message that a problem is full of opportunity. Our Bulldogs took this opportunity to work together, share strategies, and learn from each other!
Please review important, upcoming dates listed in this newsletter. We hope to see you at our first PTO meeting on Tuesday, August 14 at 7:00 in the Center X Discovery Area just inside door #1.
Relax and enjoy your weekend; I hope it is full of JOY and PLAY!
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin, Principal
Mrs. Printz's 2nd Grade Class Mrs. Printz's readers analyzed lines from a name poem that they have read several times already this year. They cut apart the words in the phrases and then rebuilt them. Readers notice letters, words, phrases, and sentences when reading. | | Mrs. Cox's Class in Our STEAM Related Arts Class These problem solvers "rose to the challenge" of connecting two cubes is a maze of lines/rods. "How is this game like the engineering design process? What did we learn by working together?" |

NWEA Assessment
The NWEA test is a computer adaptive test that students take three times per school year. The results of the test reflect the student’s academic knowledge, skills, and abilities. This test helps teachers make informed instructional decisions specific to each student. Over the next two weeks, students will complete the Fall NWEA-Reading and NWEA-Math assessments. Your child’s teacher will notify you when testing takes place. Testing results will be emailed to families via a Skylert message a few weeks after testing.
Families of Kindergarten and First Grade students will need to provide headphones that are compatible with their child’s iPad for testing. Please check your student’s iPad and verify that the NWEA app is downloaded through Mosyle Manager. Thank you!

Bulldogs for Mums
We are partnering with a local business, Wasson Nursery, to bring you some great options this year. The sale runs through the end of the school day on September 10th. You will pick up your mums at Wasson Nursery in Fishers (13279 E 126th Street). Pick up will be during their business hours from September 17th-21st. This offers more convenience for our families! When you go to pick up, you just tell them the name on your order and that you ordered through New Britton's fundraiser.
