Eagle Update
August 24, 2018 (Staff)
Out and About
The 18-19 school year is going to be awesome. Set your goals and the goals for your students high and work hard to reach them! Remember the encouraging words Mae Jemison's mother used to inspire her...
Dream it, Believe it, Work Hard for it!
Events for the Week:
You can find events for the Week on the SHS Staff Calendar. The calendar can also be found on the SHS Website (staff tab) and the Eagle Vision home page.
News and Announcements
Announcements
Just a reminder that announcements will be made at 7:50. If you have anything that needs to be announced please share it in writing, preferably the day before.
Jr. Teacher Assistants
Middle School students who have Jr. Teacher Assistant as an elective will need to report to Mrs. Wilson's office with a pen or pencil Monday morning during their elective block. They will report to their assigned classes Tuesday.
Important Info
The Important Updates and Information for a Successful Start is being shared one more time. If you haven't reviewed the information please do so before Monday.
Safety Courses
The first round of Public School Works safety courses are due Friday, August 31. You will NOT receive an email regarding the courses; you WILL NEED to self enroll in the first round of courses. I'm once again sharing information regarding courses, training schedule and how to self enroll.
Recess/Energizer Time
Recess and energizer times have been provided in the master schedule. As conflicts arise with your assigned recess/energizer time please look at the schedule and choose an alternate time when NO ONE is outside.
Cafeteria Seating
Attached is a seating chart for the cafeteria during lunch. We will have signs on each table for the first few weeks of school so that you and your students can easily identify where you sit.
Grade Span Meetings
We will be meeting Monday morning at the times listed below to welcome students back, share important information, and end with our bus evacuation drill. Please report to the MPR at the following times:
- 6th-8th 10:20
- 3rd-5th 11:00
-1st-2nd 11:45
Bus Routes
Please see Mr. Chung, Mrs. Snipes, or me if you have any questions about how a child will get home (don’t wait until the last minute...ask early so we will have time to investigate).
Beginning of the Year Letter
If you have not sent me a copy of your back to school parent letter, please do so in the next couple of days (electronic is preferred).
Parent Nights
Please schedule your parent night meeting in the first three weeks of school. Dates that have been shared with me already have been posted on the staff calendar. Please make sure you include an opportunity for parents to complete the volunteer application at the end of your parent meeting (especially important for field trip chaperons). Non-homeroom teachers, your help is needed to support classroom teachers during parent nights (greeting parents, assisting as needed, providing support with volunteer application process). Make arrangements with one of the grade level teams to provide additional support.
PTA Budget Requests
The PTA is taking budget requests from staff for the 18-19 school year. All requests should be submitted by Friday, September 14. The PTA Advisory Board will be meeting Monday, September 17 to review requests and prepare a budget which will be presented at the general meeting September 24. This Budget Request Form can be used to submit multiple requests, up to four if needed. Do NOT use this form to submit field trip requests.
Again this year, the PTA will set aside a specific amount to use for field trips (the amount will be determined once we receive our PTA Thrift Shop Check. The amount will then be distributed to each class/grade level equitably (k-7th grade). 8th Grade students/parents have been allowed to earn funds for their trip through the PTA Thrift Shop during the previous school year. Use the Field Trip Request form to submit your requests for the year. This information will be used by the PTA to allocate field trip funding. Once again, please do NOT include field trip requests in this form.
SRO
I'm excited to share that Silk Hope School will be the base location for a School Resource Officer, Sgt. Cook. We will be sharing our SRO with SCE and VCE. Not only will this increase the safety of our school but it will also help our students to see how our local law enforcement serves our community in proactive and positive ways. Please welcome Sgt. Cook when you see her around the school and introduce her to your class.
After School Supervision
If your have children who remain after school (your biological children), please make sure they remain in your room (or the room of one of your colleagues if they are agreeable). Bring snacks to eat, things to do, etc while they wait for you. Students should not be roaming the building, running in the hallway, or making excessive noise which interferes with your work or those around you.
Goosechase Fun!
