Pinewood Weekly Newsletter
August 6, 2021
Principal's Message
We are looking forward to seeing our students for the first day of classes next Thursday, August 12th!
As a parent myself, I appreciate knowing as many details about the start of the school year so that I can help prepare my children for the upcoming months. The purpose of this newsletter is to provide information for families to help answer questions and to get set for a terrific year ahead. As you read below, note that you can click on the green headers to access linked documents. In addition, paper copies of any of these documents are available in the school office.
Please know that our Pinewood Office is now open. You are welcome to stop by to speak to one of our secretaries. You may also reach out by phone or email and we will be happy to assist and answer questions.
I know you are all eager to find out class assignments. Currently, we are experiencing significant movement both into and out of the school. Final rosters will be posted in our office window at Pinewood on Wednesday, after 3:30 pm.
Respectfully,
Kim Little

Bus Transportation
Similar to last year, students will be required to wear masks on the bus.
As the drivers get to know their new ridership and associated stops, please be aware that the route times may not be exact. Students should be at their bus stop five minutes before the listed route time. Also, please be aware that occasionally our busses may be running late. In this case, parents may call the school office and we can get an update on the bus location.
Students may only get off the bus at the location listed on their bus application. Any bus changes need to be approved by the transportation department. It is also important to know that a parent or approved adult must be present to pick up Kindergartners at their bus stop. In the event that nobody is at the stop to pick up the Kindergartener, the child will be brought back to the school office. For your reference the transportation number is 644-3750.
Parent Drop-off and Pick- Up Procedures.
A.M. Drop- Off - After 8:00 AM, students may be dropped off along the yellow curb near the playground and Head Start Preschool Building. No longer do you need to wait for a staff member to greet your student at your vehicle. Please have your student get out via the passenger side of your vehicle. You may also park in the lot and walk your child to the front of the school using the parking lot crosswalk. Please do not stop your vehicle in the bus unloading zone until all four busses have exited the lot in route to the middle school. School Starts at 8:15 am.
PM Pick Up - School is dismissed at 2:30 pm. Each Wednesday is an early release day and dismissal is at 1:00 pm. This year we are going to ask parents picking up students to park their vehicle and come on campus for pick-up. If you have a TK or Kindergarten student, you will go to room 2 at the front of the school to get your student. For students in grades 1-4, we will unlock the playground gate at the end of the day for parents to come in and meet their student. We will ask parents to wait patiently near the back of rooms 1 and 2 near the small play structure. There will be signs specifying each grade level. Parents should wait by the sign of their youngest student. Students will be walked out to this area where they will be united with the person picking them up. While there will be several staff members facilitating this process, please be understanding that it takes some time to ensure kids are matched with the right adult.
Whenever you are driving in our school parking lot, be aware of people and moving cars. It is important that you always drive slowly in our parking lot.
Again, thank you in advance as we all adjust to this new routine.
Food Service
Kindergarten and TK students will come straight to the cafeteria each morning and will be offered a breakfast before school. Students in grades 1-4 may choose to come in for a snack breakfast before school or during their morning recess.
