READING WITH THE CHEETAHS
Special Sight Word Edition
How do we teach sight words at Crestview?
What are the 4 steps again?
Write the word and erase letters and have the student figure out what is missing.
2. Mix it and Fix it
Mix up the letters that spell the word and put it back together again.
3. Table Write
Students use their pointer finger to trace the word on the table while saying the letters they are writing.
4. Write and Retrieve
Have the student write the sight word. Then tell them to erase and ask them to write a previously learned sight word. Then see if they can write their newly learned sight word one more time. Do they still remember it?
Do you want to try this at home? Here is what you will need!
Letters
You can find a magnetic letter app on iPad which will work just as well too.

TIPS
2. do not spend too much time on one step; the entire routine should not last longer than 3-5 minutes
3. gives the child helpful clues when they get stuck, such as "this word has 4 letters" or "think about the 1st sound"
4. practice each night to help the child master their sight words
5. Have the student spell and read the word as many times as possible; notice how I have the students spell the word aloud when they take off and put on the magnetic letters from the trays, and when they are table writing! This helps build memory.
