6th Grade News
MATH: In math, we will begin learning what rational numbers are and how to graph them on a coordinate grid. During this unit each student will be required to draw picture on a coordinate grid and label the order pairs used to construct the given picture.
SOCIAL STUDIES: For the next three weeks we will be learning what it means to be a Geographer and a Historian. We will also be celebrating Freedom Week, this includes the study of our great country.
7th Grade News
MATH: For the next three weeks, 7th grade math will master operations with rational numbers, learn about the number system and solve problems with integers.The 7th grade math honors will be learning how to use the TI-84 calculator, the real number of systems and mean absolute deviation.
SCIENCE: We will start our study over flow of energy.
SOCIAL STUDIES: In Texas History, we are studying natural Texas and its people. Our first unit exam will be given the week of September 25th. After our unit exam, we will start our studies of the early explorers of Texas. As we progress through our units we will continue to work in our interactive notebooks.
8th Grade News
ELA: Over the next three weeks, our class will be in our Fiction Unit of study. Your student is responsible for THREE novels during this time. The Outsiders will be an in class Novel, a Book Club Novel that your student chose and an Independent reading Novel that can be from my library, the schools library or home.In writing, we will be working on how author's generate ideas to write. Please help your student become aware of their surroundings so they can become better writers!
MATH: Welcome back 8th graders! 8th grade students are allowed to use calculators in class and on their test. I do not have calculators to send home with every student. They are not required to purchase one. If you have an Android phone there is an app Wabbitemu that gives you a Ti 84 calculator program on your phone for free. The first Vocabulary Study Contract, VSC is due on September 18th. The vocabulary words and VSC document are both glued into the math journal. We will be taking a test over unit 1 on September 19th. The second unit we are studying is solving equations. We will be expanding on what they have learned from 6th and 7th grade. If your student is absent, they can watch a video in Google Classroom to complete their notes. They can also use those videos to help if they get stuck on their homework. Please contact me if you have any questions.
SCIENCE: We will start our unit over atoms and the periodic table.
SOCIAL STUDIES: We will identify the contributions of men and women to American society during the colonial era. Each day we will be identifying events during our celebrate freedom week. By the end of the week, we will finishing up our colonization unit with a test. Our next unit we will cover will be over the American Revolution.
