Picture Days and book return Drive Through this week!
Due to a scheduling conflict, we have had to change the date for the 8th grade Yearbook./ID Pictures and book return. 8th grade will now be on Monday, October 19. 7th grade will remain the same on Thursday, October 22nd. The times will remain the same from 1:00 pm-5:30 pm.
8th Grade students will also be returning the novel Peak on Oct. 19. 7th Grade students will be returning the novel The Color of My Words and checking out a NEW novel based on their English teacher on Oct. 22. Be sure to bring that book to the drive-thru to return.
It is important that all students have a current photo and ID card when we return to campus. The process will be very similar to our drive-thru summer check-in. Vehicles will enter the main parking lot from Newhall Ave and proceed through the “Bus Shoot” where your student will exit the vehicle at the direction of a staff member. Caregivers will stay in their vehicle, following the line of cars and coming out to pick up your student in the valet line on Dalbey Dr. in the front of school. See map below.
These safety precautions will be in place:
Only students will exit the car for their photo.
Masks will be required except for the 10 seconds that the photo is taken.
Students will need to complete a Health Screen for COVID symptoms and temperature check will be required the day of the event.
A digital Health Screen form will be sent to students in their email on Sunday and Wednesday evening. Students will be asked to fill it out prior to coming to school to take their photo their scheduled day and time. They will need to login using their my.hartdistrict.org to complete the screen. Proof of students being symptom-free will be required for students to exit out of the car.
Please refer to the schedule below for your designated drive-thru time assigned by your last name. Please have your student wear clothing that adheres to the dress code (available on our school website). Only if you are unable to make your scheduled time, you may come between 5:00-5:30 PM FLEX time.

Introducing bark for schools
Dear Parents,
When schools give students access to devices and online accounts, an incredible world of learning opportunities opens up — as well as potential dangers. Digital safety is critically important to the Hart District, which is why we are now using Bark for Schools to help us protect our students both online and in real life.
Bark monitors Hart District student Google accounts, including Gmail and Drive, for signs of potential issues like:
- Cyberbullying
- Suicidal ideation
- Sexual predators
- Threats of violence
Alerts at the First Signs of Danger
When possible dangers arise on these school-issued student accounts, Bark for Schools sends school site administrators alerts so they can evaluate and address those concerns in a timely manner. With situations involving possible imminent student harm, we will collaborate with families, law enforcement, and local mental health agencies to ensure the safety of our students. These alerts also give school administrators insights that help promote the wellness of the entire student body.
Learn more about Bark for Schools — including their commitment to student privacy. Thank you for your support as we strive to help keep our students safe online.

Placerita is a Title I School
What is Title I?
Title 1, Part A, is a federally funded program which provides services to schools based on student economic needs. Title I is designed to support state and local school reform efforts tied to challenging state academic standards to improve teaching and learning, and to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education. Title I schools jointly develop a written parental involvement policy with parents each year called the School-Parent Compact.
In the William S. Hart Union High School District, eight schools are eligible to receive Title I funds and implement school-wide programs as a part of the Elementary and School Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002 (NCLB), and the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).
Parent involvement is critical in support of student achievement. Each school provides opportunities for families to be engaged and involved in their child’s education to support student learning. Parents are encouraged and invited to become partners in education with each school, contributing valuable ideas, input, and feedback throughout the year which is used to revise school site plans annually.
Parents are encouraged to maintain regular two-way communication with school staff regarding issues involving student learning and successful participation in school-sponsored programs. Parents should also play an active role in assisting their student with academic learning at home, and monitoring their student’s progress.
More information can be found here.

Attend school every day on time and ready to learn with a positive attitude
Read at home, study regularly, be responsible, and give your best effort at call times
Be respectful, listen carefully, and follow directions
Communicate openly and honestly with parents, and ask for help when necessary
Please review this School-Parent Compact with your child. This School-Parent Compact may also be discussed with you during a parent-teacher conference as it relates to your child’s school progress. Thank you for your support and involvement in your child’s education. Please feel free to contact your child’s counselor if you would like more information (661) 259-1551.
Sincerely,
John Turner

Questions about Technology and Attendance
If you are having any type of tech issues please call the main school line at 661-259-1551 and we will give you a time to come in to work on fixing it.
In order to clarify a few questions that we have regarding attendance and students being present on either Zoom or Google Meet let's discuss a couple things. First, for students to check in to be counted present they should be present on screen for the teacher to see them. Second, they should mute their mic unless class is in a discussion mode, direct questions are being asked or if they are greeting or saying hi to their friends during designated times during class. It is important to remember that participation is a very important part of any learning environment. In some classes like PE, dance, art or music, participation through visual connection is a part of the grade. We would not want anyone’s grade to be lowered for participation or be counted absent because they were not visually participating. Some teachers are having students respond in the chat to show presence in class. Please encourage your students to participate fully so they can get all the credit they need for participation. We understand there are some exceptions and teachers are working with students in those areas already.
