A message from Holly Bevilacqua, COO

Hello and Happy Spring to all! It is so nice to know that we have some sunshine and warmer weather is peaking its way through!

As spring flowers begin to bloom and changes to the new season come into view, we are very excited to swing into spring with some exciting programs and educational activities for your children. Our Monthly theme is Spring is in the Air! The children will explore Flowers, Signs of Spring, The week of the Young Child, Our Earth, and a Rainbow of colors. Check out the calendar of events on our website to stay up to date on all of the exciting learning activities.

Our website is a great resource and includes Program News, Special events, employment opportunities, and PTO news. Check it out! We’ve been working on many improvements in our programs and thank all of our families and staff for their input! Make sure to submit an answer to our question of the month. This is one of the many ways we get our families and

staff to give their input!

Don't miss all the exciting events during the week of the young child! It's Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and Family Friday!

We hope you are enjoying our Procare Parent App- Our staff is able to communicate with you throughout the day by sharing photos and videos which they use for child assessments as well. It is amazing how much we can use technology while working and teaching our children. Procare Connect is a great way to communicate directly with your child's teachers. We ask that you have an updated email address on file so we can share your child's milestones and daily activities with you. We are hoping to add more ipads, kindles, cell phones in the classrooms for the teachers to have access to the child's records and be able to record milestones and notes when they are not actively working with the children.

Just a few reminders:

If you have any changes to you address, phone number or employment, please send us an email so we can update your emergency information.

Our family referral program is a great way to earn tuition credits while sharing our wonderful centers and clubhouse program with family and friends. Ask your site manager how you can earn tuition credits!

Please make sure that you label all items that come into the center. Especially lunch items!

Please remember that we are not allowed to prep food for any meals. Please send in items for your children ready to be served. We are able to heat items in the microwave as long as they are ready to heat.

In hopes that the warmer weather will continue, please remember our policy on open-toe shoes/sandals. Due to safety concerns, open-toe sandals, jellies, or flip flops should not be worn. Please make sure shoes protect their feet and are safe for the playground.

Healthy Eating and Nutrition

We like to occasionally remind families about the importance of nutritious meals for young children. Although packing meals at home for school is time-consuming, the types of foods that your child finds in his or her lunch box help to determine the energy that he or she has for participating in school activities. When selecting lunches, please consider those that are low in fat, sodium, and sugar. For example, some of the ready-made snacks or lunch meals look appealing but are low on nutritional value. It may take a few minutes, but it is worth your time to make a peanut butter or cheese sandwich and add a piece of fruit. Yogurt and fresh fruit make nutritious snacks. Please help educate your child about nutritious eating and snacking so that he or she will benefit from these lessons now and in the future!

March answers: "WHAT IS SOMETHING THAT YOU APPRECIATE ABOUT CARELOT OR YOUR CHILD'S TEACHERS"

*Having teachers who are compassionate and can teach things in many different ways

*Communication between teacher and parent. Procare, when used consistently, is great for this!

*There are numerous aspects of Carelot Learning Center that I appreciate. To narrow it down to one thing is difficult. With that said, what comes to mind immediately is the atmosphere of kindness that is evident on a daily basis at the East Lyme Center. This is observed by the acts of kindness and respect the staff and parents show to one another. Collectively, we work on instilling these values in the children through our genuine examples. One will see this happening throughout the center. Joyful experiences are paramount at Carelot.

*Caring and knowledgeable staff

*Parents know that their child is in a safe learning environment.

*Socialization! I think children learning how to socialize with adults and other children is important.
