Be A Student of Swimming!

Okay, the college football season is finally over. Did you stay up late Monday to watch the final game--LSU vs. Clemson? During the college football season, I have often asked our swimmers how their football team played that weekend. Then I tease with the question, "How much swimming did you watch this weekend?" Huh? Watch swimming? But that's part of what it means to be a "student" of your sport; not only a swimmer, but a student of swimming and one's own swimming.

How often during a meet do you pause a moment to watch the best backstrokers, breaststrokers, flyers, and freestylers? The best swimmers pay attention to swimming, to the best swimmers, to their own swimming. There is a such a strong connection between "seeing" and "doing" that Stingrays now have cameras and monitors at each of our swim sites.

So many resources are available to us via YouTube posts, Olympic cable television, GoSwim.tv, SwimSwam to watch more swimming. Watch more swimming and pay attention to your own swimming: Elite swimmers pay attention to their own swimming with a personal diary or log.

Check out this article HERE about how some elite swimmers used a personal log to keep track of how they're doing, what they're doing, and what's working. When it comes to good, FAST swimming--watch the best, watch yourself, do what the best do.
