Staff Spotlight
Tina Myers
1. What classes do you teach and/or programs and activities do you work with?
I am one of three assistant principals. I currently supervise English language arts, special education, and career technical education programs.
2. How long have you been at WHS?
This is my third year, and they have all been interesting and different!
3. What do you enjoy most about the Westview community?
I enjoy so many things about Westview! The benefit of a large school is there are so many interests students can pursue here with our many classes, clubs, and sports. I love seeing students learn new things and grow into adulthood.
4. If you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it - metaphorically speaking, getting a message out to millions or billions - what would it say and why? It could be a few words or a paragraph. It could be someone else's quote or any quotes you think of often or live your life by. Why would you put it on a billboard today?
My billboard would say, "Be the change you wish to see in the world." This has been credited to Mahatma Gandhi, but there is some debate if this is the exact quote. Either way, I try to model kindness and patience every day.
5. What is something about you that many people at Westview might not know? (Hobbies, talents, interests, fun facts, etc...)
My first job, besides babysitting, was picking peaches. I also worked as a construction laborer in New York City for two summers.
AP Exams
AP exams begin this week. Students should have already turned in their permission forms and checked their AP exam schedule at myap.collegeboard.org for any changes. Students should also check the paperwork they sent to themselves for test location information and other test day details. Please email Kara Ferris with any questions. Best of luck to all students participating in exams this year!

Westview Theatre Presents The Women of Lockerbie
We invite you to come see the last main stage production here at WHS this year, The Women of Lockerbie. Shows are this Thursday- Saturday @ 7pm. Tickets are $10 and available at the box office during lunches, at the door or online at https://search.seatyourself.biz/webstore/accounts/westviewtheatre/buy-tix.
The show is intended for a mature audience. Here is the description.
THE STORY: A mother from New Jersey roams the hills of Lockerbie, Scotland, looking for her son’s remains that were lost in the crash of Pan Am 103. She meets the women of Lockerbie, who are fighting the U.S. government to obtain the clothing of the victims found in the plane’s wreckage. The women, determined to convert an act of hatred into an act of love, want to wash the clothes of the dead and return them to the victim’s families. THE WOMEN OF LOCKERBIE is loosely inspired by a true story, although the characters and situations in the play are purely fictional. Written in the structure of a Greek tragedy, it is a poetic drama about the triumph of love over hate.
We hope to see you there!

Why encourage youth to roll to school?
Walking and rolling to school can be an easy, fun way to travel to school while increasing metal and physical health while helping our planet. On average BSD sees an additional 12,000 cars that travel an extra 2 miles to transport students to school. That translates to 11+ tons of carbon emissions daily. Some additional benefits include:
- Youth who are active perform 20% better at school and arrive more focused.
- Youth who walk and roll receive about 2/3 of the daily recommended physical activity
- More walking and rolling means less congestion in our busy parking lots and safer routes to school. More students walking and rolling makes them more visible and safer.

BSD Proposed 2022 Bond
In May 2022, voters will decide on a new proposed capital improvement bond. If passed, the bond would raise about $723 million to be used on projects across the district including seismic stability upgrades, improvement of air ventilation systems, replacement of aging roofs and additional classroom space to alleviate overcrowding. Bond money also would be used to improve accessibility in special education classrooms, enhance learning spaces and replace all one-to-one student Chromebooks and iPads. The two largest proposed projects are the complete rebuilds of Beaverton High School and Raleigh Hills K-8 School.
The bond proposal will appear on the May 17, 2022 ballot.

Beaverton School District Antiracist Vision Statement
The BSD School Board unanimously voted to adopt an Antiracist Vision Statement. Informed by the work of the Beaverton Multicultural Educator Community (BMEC) and the 40-member Equitable Policies Task Force made up of students, family, community members and staff, the vision statement will guide our implementation of our Every Student Belongs Policy (ACB) and help ensure that our schools are safe and welcoming learning spaces for all.
Antiracist Vision Statement
Every student and employee has the right to learn and work in a safe and inclusive school environment that honors their race, color, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability and national origin.
Beaverton School District owns that our student outcomes currently point to our part in perpetuating institutional racism, and we commit to actions that address the current culture that is leading to these outcomes. Schools are critical in providing safe and creative opportunities for people to learn about different cultural and racial identities, have conversations about pressing issues and correct injustice wherever it exists. We commit to eliminating the structures, policies and practices that perpetuate inequities in our schools and in our community.
Beaverton School District will authentically engage each student, family and staff member to build connection, uplift understanding and truly value the diversity of our school communities. We will work to dismantle policies and systems that perpetuate institutional racism and barriers to education and other school-related activities. Students and families of color will see themselves represented in curriculum, materials, instruction, classrooms and all school activities in our district. Our district will honor, respect, represent, engage with and be accessible to students and adults from all communities.
Eliminating racism and all forms of bias is fundamental to our work — not just a part of our work. We commit to removing racism, white supremacy, hate speech and all forms of bigotry from our schools and communities.
Our district will:
- Seek and incorporate student, family, educator and administrator input in decision-making processes.
- Provide ongoing anti-bias and antiracist education to every staff member.
- Enforce Every Student Belongs procedures to prevent, interrupt and stop racist and biased incidents among students and between staff and students or community members.
- Create an inclusive learning community that honors, respects, represents, engages and is accessible to learners from all communities.
- Create permanent district funding and resources to promote equitable policies, structures and practices for BIPOC students and other marginalized groups.
- Implement policies, procedures and professional development to confront and eliminate conscious and unconscious racism and review these policies and procedures regularly to ensure we are meeting our commitments.
