Thanksgiving Edition
Thanksgiving
She and I got to reminiscing about Thanksgiving days from our past. One that always makes us laugh was the time we hosted our family for Thanksgiving. My sister, myself and two cousins (both boys) were playing "hide and go seek" in our basement. My sister was "it" because my cousins always made her or myself be "it." They were older. You get the picture. Anyway, the washing machine was "home base." If you spotted someone, you had to touch the washer before the other person and they would be out.
Well, one of my cousins was quite competitive and when my sister spotted him hiding, the race for the washer was on. As my sister was about to reach the washer, my cousin gave her a "hip-check" which changed my sister's path to the washer in a drastic way. She instead crashed into the dryer, breaking her arm. After returning from the hospital, it began to snow. Snow on Thanksgiving. Awesome! While my cousins and I played outside in the snow, I can still see my sister looking out the living room window with her arm in a sling, sad because she couldn't join us thanks to my "competitive" cousin and his errant "hip-check." I felt bad for her. What a day that was.
I am thankful for so many things in my life. Our oldest daughter has a tradition of going around the table at Thanksgiving dinner and asking each person what they are thankful for and why. I always enjoy this. We try to think of something beyond family, because we talk to each other all the time and love and support one another daily. But with the pandemic, being able to see family in a small gathering is something to be thankful for. So, family will be accepted at the table this year. I know Kathy and I are so thankful to be spending our grandaughter's first Thanksgiving with her. It is also our youngest daughter's Golden birthday tomorrow. Twenty-five on November 25th! Each year bring challenges for everyone. No one is immune to the things that just seem to pop up and require our immediate attention. Kathy and I have experienced this in many ways over the past few months, but all is good.
I sincerely want to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving, while hopefully getting to spend some time with family and friends. I know I speak for our entire staff when I say we are extremely thankful that you entrust your children with us. It is a blessing to welcome your children into our school each day, knowing they represent the future of our country.
Happy Thanksgiving. Thank you for your ongoing support for Cedarhome Elementary. Take care.
Sincerely,
Jeff
A message from Mrs. Wayland
As we are wrapping up November, I think about the many things I have to be thankful for. Some of those things are our students, families and staff at Cedarhome. I love being with so many supportive, kind, and caring people. It is truly a blessing.
We have been working on our playground behavior. If you have a chance, ask your child what he/she is doing outside at recess. Our goal is to have students playing with others and learning how to interact socially with them. Staff are teaching students the playground rules and how to work with others when something does not go their way.
It is great to see so many students and staff participating in our School Spirit Days. December 3rd will be Sports Attire Day, and December 17th will be Festive Day. A few ideas for sports attire might include wearing a football jersey, a team sweatshirt, a cheerleading outfit, or a team hat. Please do not bring or wear any sporting equipment such as football pads, a baseball bat or a basketball. Festive attire might include a festive hat, a winter sweater, or a light up necklace.
Our first Student of the Month selections will be at the end of the month. One student will be selected from the class each month. The criteria for selection is GRIZ (G - great attitude, R - respect, I - independence, Z- zero bullying.) We are looking forward to celebrating all of our student winners each month. I have already heard how difficult it is for teachers to make their selection because there are so many incredible students. There will be one each month, so students will have lots of opportunities to be chosen if they are not selected this month.
Have a wonderful time celebrating Thanksgiving with your friends and loved ones.
